“I’ve got all the time in the world,”
Of course he remembered, because that wasn’t the only thing that had happened that day.
“All of you. Destroy everything you touch!” Andrew spat.
There was time for that. She had time.
Jet had time to find the right thing; she had all the time in the world, remember?
She wanted what she’d always wanted. To do something, achieve something big, something undeniably great, to prove that she could. So that life could finally begin. Jet had played the waiting game too long, and now she was out of time. She’d run out of road, and she’d run out of later. Someone had taken them from her. But not all of it.
“Do something?” Mom cried. “What do you mean? Do what?” Something great. Something no one had ever done before. “I’m going to solve my own murder.”
That’s when Jet noticed it, the graze on his knuckles, both of them actually. Freshly scabbed, the surface cracking when he tightened his grip on the cutlery.
Sophia laughed, too much breath behind it.
This one’s called For Her.”
How was Sophia texting from a phone she’d left behind?
When Luke and Sophia were supposed to be here, together, in this house.
“We have plenty of time,”
“This is literally two minutes after we drove away from the house,” Jet said, watching as Sophia’s blue Range Rover peeled into the drive once more. “Weird,” Billy muttered. “Almost like she was close by, waiting for you guys to leave.” “Almost,” Jet agreed.
“Does Billy know?” she called. “What you did to him? How you ruined his life?”
“If you tell Luke about the pills, Jet, I’ll tell Billy about his mom!”
“Invoice fraud?” Jet said in a small voice. “Has Luke been committing invoice fraud? Pocketing the difference?”
“Insurance fraud too. Because he’s misreporting the number of employees to their workers’ comp insurance provider. And if one of those unreported employees doesn’t have workers’ comp, it means that if something happened at work, if they got injured, they wouldn’t have access to healthcare or salary compensation.”
“I have time,” she said as they crossed the street.
And you were mine—m-my best friend.
speaking loudly over the guilt,
Ok I've been wondering this whole time, WHAT DID SHE DO TO BILLY'S MOM?! Did she for some reason kill her? When the freak are we gonna know, she is going to DIE TODAY!!!!!!!! I wanna scream they have no time left!!! This rabbit hole must reveal her killer before she dies!
It’s about all of those small moments I missed while I was waiting.
But Jet had the time.
“That’s fine,” Billy said, dropping his eyes. “You can love something without needing it to love you back.”
“I think we have time.”
