“Waves keep things in motion. No motion means no growth. If you want your kids to grow this year, make waves.”
“I don’t know what she’ll feel, but it’s going to be okay regardless. You can’t control how anyone else reacts to something, right? Her reaction belongs to her. Your life belongs to you.”
“The only thing you’re right about is that I’m adorable. I’m not tough at all. I’m all rounded edges and softness. I’m one of those soft-life TikTok ladies who bake bread in ball gowns and whisper into their microphones...I just have to work. And I’m not afraid of little bugs. I’m afraid of big ass bugs.”

“I’m going to show you how to take, how to accept and enjoy without doing any work.”
“Yes. I’m just...not used to any of this.”

“Let me take care of you this weekend, okay, Miss Independent. I know you’ve been doing life alone for a while, but you have me now.” I lean over the island and kiss her. She’s still pouting, but I see a smile trying to break through.
“I’m a professional, baby. I can’t be seen acting like a banshee in public over a mediocre man that wouldn’t have been born if his mother had more self-esteem.”
“And remember that your business isn’t the same as grown folks' business. Understand?”
I guess I'm just too used to being alone.
“Forever changes. It’s okay to redefine it.” I look at him. “So what’s your definition?” He smiles. “Right now, it’s wherever you are.”
