His smile faded, and his gaze darkened. “You’re not my enemy, Pearl.” But his tone became softer.. Too soft. “You’re my purpose.”
“Such a beautiful mess,” he murmured. “The way you unravel for me… it’s intoxicating.” He leaned in, his lips grazing the shell of my ear. “Your body is perfect when it breaks like this.”
He knelt down slowly, his huge body lowering until he was looking right at me. His black eyes locked onto mine with this intensity that made my breath catch. “You're not just a choice, Pearl. You're my answer.”
I stared at him, anger bubbling up as I hissed, “You’re a monster.” His black eyes glinted, his voice dropping to a possessive whisper. “Yes. But I’m your monster.”
“You think that’ll make it better?” I whispered. “You think your pain will undo what you’ve done?” “No,” he admitted, his voice thin and unsteady. “But it’s all I have to give. I need you to punish me... so I can feel something—anything—besides this misery. Please forgive me, Pearl. Please.”
“You are everything,” he whispered. “My light, my darkness, my salvation.”
This was home now. I belonged to it. I belonged to him. And he belonged to me.
