“Why are you doing this, Lena? To hurt me?” “Hurt you?” I let out a dry laugh. “I have sex with someone, and you make it about you? You’re allowed to move on and be happy, and I can’t? That’s an attack on you?” His eyes darkened with fury, his fists shaking at his sides. “So, you admit it, then,” he said in a voice that was all too calm…it unnerved me. “You slept with him.” “Yes. I did.” I crossed my arms, giving him my best fake smile. His eyes flared, just for a moment, his chest rising and falling as he tried and failed to hide the signs of his rage. His body pressed closer, causing us both

She was a beautiful whirlwind. A force to be reckoned with. She was everything I dreamed of and more. A spitfire, a siren.
“I haven’t known happiness since you left my life, Lena. I haven’t known satisfaction since that last night you were in my bed. How can’t you comprehend how desperately I desire you? How, after all these years, am I still in love with you?!”
“You consume all of me, Lena. You are my waking thought and the final picture I see before I sleep. You are a siren that haunts my dreams. It's been that way since the moment I met you.” I sighed in defeat. “There’s not a damn second you aren’t on my mind.”
“Nevertheless,” I murmured, “even with all the pain that has come with loving you, I would never choose to forget the beauty of the moments we shared. Because for me, those moments with you are the only beautiful memories I have.”
“You are worth everything. Worth more than all the gold in Tovagoth, all the gems and jewels in every royal chamber, worth more than all the paintings and artifacts in the temples.” He pressed his lips to my forehead. “Priceless, Lena,” he whispered. “You are priceless. That will never change.”
“I will love every version of you, my Soul-Tie,” I whispered. “I love you so much,” he wept. “I am so sorry…”
“I am desperately in love with you, Lena.” He moved his arm and slid his hand along mine—my hand that now rested on his thigh. Our fingers interlocked. “It has only ever been you. No matter what I have done or who I’ve been with. It was only ever you who held my heart,” he assured me.
“I never want to stop,” he murmured into my ear. “I need this forever. I need you forever.”
“I love you,” he whispered, his arms encasing me. “I love you so damn much.” He kissed the top of my head, running his thumb along my cheek. “I have missed making love to you. But I have also missed our friendship. I've missed it all.” My throat burned, but I smiled, kissing his cheek. “I love you more than anything. I've missed it all, too. The only thing that has kept me going these years was the hope I'd find you again…somehow, someway.”
“But I only wanted to experience it with you. I acquired this magic because of you, after all. It belongs to you. All of me does.”
It wouldn't matter to me if the world saw me as the ugliest, most pathetic man. Her love and admiration were all I needed, all I wanted.
My knees threatened to buckle at the sight. She was so fucking ethereal. Really, the word ethereal didn’t do justice to how intoxicating she was. She was otherworldly, her beauty ineffable. No one on this planet could compare.
Lena jumped, and we broke our gaze to see Erabella standing beside us, hands on her hips. I then realized the slow music had already stopped and moved on to the next song. She turned to Lena with narrowed eyes. “I’d like my husband back if you don’t mind.”
“How are you any better than Silas? Continuing to stay with Viola when you’ve slept with me?” I swallowed the lump in my throat. I took a deep breath as I recalled our time together in the Valley of Awakening, as I recalled her writhing beneath me, her moaning my name. The truth was this. Era and I were not in the Valley of Awakening for a few hours. We were there for forty-three days.
My hand still remained on top of hers. “I know I’m not the good guy in this situation, Era. I was unfaithful to you.” Something in her eyes flicked, something I couldn’t place. “Even before you cheated, you weren’t a good husband,” she whispered.
I rushed to grab my blade—my scabbard beside Era on the bench. She roughly grabbed my wrist as I reached for it. My eyes shot to hers, burning with rage as I took in her emotionless form. “What are you doing?!” I hissed. It was all I could get out until I felt something hit the back of my head. Hard. Suddenly, the world went black.
I would kill King Ulric. I would kill every soldier who chose to obey him. I didn’t care if they had families. I didn’t care if it would scar my soul. Nothing mattered anymore except seeking revenge and freeing my people and innocent humans from this man’s reign—this monster.
“I am a God,” I whispered. “I am your daughter. The Goddess of Purification.” “That is right, my dear.” The God of Vengeance's smile grew proud. “And you shall bow to no one.”
