Now, normally, I do my best to be sweet Xander. Like a puppy. Or a kitten. If I’m cute, people will want to keep me. But I never learned how to share as a child, and now, a filthy little gremlin lives inside me. And seeing that man’s hands on Derek? The gremlin is activated.
I’ll sooner pull off my Derek’s head than let someone else play with him. “We’re in a club. Guys touch,” Seven says, like I haven’t caught the scent of blood. “Over my dead body.”
It’s easy enough to give them the slip when I’m shorter than almost everyone here, even with my platform sneakers on. The same sneakers I use to stomp the feet of anyone who gets in my way.
If there weren’t bars around my man, I’d bite his fucking dick off.
“That little fuckwit pushed me over.” I give the asshole my devil smile and blow him a kiss from behind Derek’s back.
Because Derek is my real-life Prince Charming. Now, if only he’d do that part where he sweeps me off my feet.
My trauma dump is more of an avalanche, and once I start, that mess keeps coming.
He wants to fight back. I can read it all over his face, and if he pushes, I’ll be ready for a fight. It’s one of the things I’m good at. I’m always ready to go claws out.
if he wants to call me a fairy, I’ll call him a crotchety has-been and move on.”
“I really like spending time with the old people.” “The … old people. Do you call them that?” “Sometimes.” “Do they hate you?” “Probably, but not for that.” I grin at him innocently.
I scramble from the room like Xander might bite me. Honestly, I’m not so sure I’d put it past him. I’m also definitely sure I wouldn’t hate it.
“What a coincidence that you were closest when Carla suddenly needed to sit down.” He’s not even trying to hold back his smile. “I hope you’re not accusing my new best friend of anything.” “Like what?” I play dumb. “Like helping me orchestrate getting to be your partner for a dance.” “I’d never suspect anything like that from you.” His smile takes on a wicked edge. “You should.” “You’re too sweet to be sneaky.” “And you clearly know nothing about me. You should fix that.”
I’ll never understand how guys with dicks that work properly don’t become sex addicts. If I could get horny like this, every day, I’d never leave my bed.
“Mary told me you’ve been running my class?” “Your class has been running me. Unlike you, I’m appreciative of all the unsolicited butt taps. Almost feels like I’m in my jock era.” “As a former jock, those taps aren’t anywhere near as erotic as people make them out to be.” He presses his hands to his ears. “All I heard was that the jock rooms are an erotic fuck fest, and you had the time of your life in college.” I humor him. “Yep, that’s exactly what I said.”
Coffee really is just coffee and not a euphemism for him wanting to take my virginity.
while I repel people, apparently, I collect mental illnesses like trading cards—but
Xander wrinkles his cute nose. “You’re … actually excited about them. You like ants.” “I like bugs.” “Oh my god.” Xander holds on to the chains and hangs himself right back. “I’m going to marry a freaky little bug man. Why, cruel world, why?” I drag myself to a stop as well. “You’d be fucking lucky to marry me.” “Derry, are you proposing? In a park? The same place I was ruthlessly stolen from my parents? I never knew you were so romantic.”
Aggy will be stubborn enough to die in that house. Probably on an expensive piece of furniture too. Then we’ll have to lie about the whole dead body thing when we sell it. I wouldn’t put it past her to haunt the place either.
I keep losing my chia pet.” I glance over at the clay unicorn on my windowsill. Madden gifted a different one to each member of the house. “Why do you move it?” “I don’t. But somehow, it ended up in the downstairs bathroom.” “Maybe you took it down there to water it?” He thinks for a moment. “That actually makes perfect sense.”
“I hope your consciousness has fun with your imaginary boyfriend’s not-real friends.” “Thanks. I hope your chia pet is done playing hide-and-seek.”
“I’ve been waiting my whole life for you. Just you. I’m not going anywhere.”
“Seven, Molly, Madden, Rush, Christian, Gabe. Those men are all in your life. You’re not alone anymore, Xander. You’re not waiting for your person. You’ve found them.” His pink tongue swipes over his lips. “And you?” “I’m already yours in all the ways I can be.”
“Oh, hey. I think this is the moment I’m supposed to tell you that if you mess with him, I’ll kill you.” “Okay, get it out of your system.” “If you mess with him—nah, I can’t do it. We both know he’ll be the one to kill you. But I can promise to help him hide your body.” “Noted.”
I didn’t think it was possible to like him more than I did when Xander told me what Seven did for him. Turns out I was wrong. Xander was right though. Seven and Molly are my people, too, now. And I’ll do everything I can to do right by all of them.
I’ve never had a boyfriend before. Apparently, I have the trust issues of a wet paper bag, so I really want to know what it’s like. With you.” “Deal. Boyfriends.”
“I’m coming back to you, bug. Always. Don’t forget that.”
I can’t let him go. I’m going to be glued to him for the rest of our lives
I love you, Xander. And the fact I had to be away from you for so fucking long doesn’t make sense. I want to make you happy. That’s it. That’s top of my dream board.”
“I’m yours. I’ve always been yours. I can’t believe you finally caught up.”
“Thank you for waiting for me,” he whispers. “I’m going to spend forever proving I was worth it.” Derek doesn’t need to though. “Dare-bear, I’ve always known.”
