Suddenly, the auditorium swells with several thousand glorious voices, rising up in a stirring a cappella rendition of “The Solid Rock”: “On Christ the solid rock I stand,” they sing, “all other ground is sinking sand.” It’s a beautiful old hymn, belted out with such seeming certitude.
