THERE IS WAR AND THERE IS REVOLUTION. WAR IS CADAVERS, AMERICAN DOLLARS, RONALD REAGAN, HELICOPTERS, CRATER-SIZE FISSIONS, DEAD PEOPLE, DEAD PEOPLE, DEAD PEOPLE. REVOLUTION IS MAKESHIFT UNIFORMS, BOMBED BRIDGES, INFIGHTING, MURDERED POETS, SCAPEGOATS, HUNGER, TRIUMPH, POLITICAL SPACE, DEAD BODIES, DEAD BODIES, DEAD BODIES. THE FUTURE SPLITS INTO POSTWAR OR POST-REVOLUTION, DIFFERENT DEAD IN EACH HALF BUT LOST LIVES LINING EACH EDGE ANYWAY.
A NATION IS A FICTION, AND LIKE ANY NARRATIVE, IT MUST HAVE A BEGINNING AND AN END. ITS SEAMS ARE IMAGINARY, INVISIBLE LINES OF STITCHES THAT HOLD IT TOGETHER, US VERSUS THEM, A COUNTRY AGAINST ITS ENEMIES. A BROTHER PICKS UP A GUN AGAINST HIS BROTHER, AND THE SEAM SPLITS. THE FICTION ENDS. A COUNTRY IS A FICTION THAT ENDS IN BLOODSHED, RUBBLE, A MOUND OF DIRT MARKED ONLY WITH FLOWERS.
A revolution requires blood sacrifices, and now it whispers his name, asking for his family’s.
A LITTLE PIECE OF ADVICE. NO ONE IS GOING TO HAND YOU WHAT YOU’RE OWED, EVEN IF YOU ASK NICELY. BE A MEAN SON OF A BITCH AND DEMAND WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY YOURS.
You two have a capitalistic nightmare for a government. Both are corrupt, both fail their constituents. We live with the system we’re born into. We thrive despite it.”
“If there’s even a chance of recovering the past, we have a moral responsibility to try, even when it means grasping for the loose threads of history.”
love is a revolutionary act.
TO STOP A CHILD DREAMING, YOU FILL THEIR HEADS WITH NIGHTMARES. AND THIS IS WHAT THE GOVERNMENT DOES. IT FINDS WAYS TO TEACH ITS CHILDREN THAT FEAR IS THE ONLY ABYSS WORTH LOOKING INTO.
I love you with my entire heart. It’s the kind of love that makes my bones ache. Your love is the main reason I’m afraid of leaving this earth. I can convince myself that sacrificing my life for the cause is glorious, valiant. Straightforward, had you not loved me the way you did, cleaving my heart and soul, opening it and joining yours to mine.
Remember me. Remember that I love you. Remember that I loved the world, even when it hurt me. Remember that I loved you, even when I hurt you and you hurt me. Let the war rage on, but don’t forget me.
