Brynleigh probably would have been disappointed. It was just like a man to take one look at her golden hair and curvy body, and decide that she couldn’t be a killer because she didn’t look like one.
Gods, how was it possible that they were already in sync? It felt like they’d spent a lifetime together.
“Because they bothered you, sweetheart, and I care a great deal about you.”
“If Brynleigh isn’t here, I don’t want to talk to anyone else.” Truth. The Matron frowned. “There is no one else? It’s highly irregular—” “No.” His voice was firm. “She’s mine.” Even though Brynleigh didn’t know it yet, it was true. Both the Matron and the guard widened their eyes as if the claiming words caught them off guard.
Now he knew. In the same way that Ryker knew the sky was blue, the grass was green, and his magic was strong, he knew she was meant to be his. They would be partners in every single way. Not just in marriage but also in life. She was the other half that would complete him. His soul recognized hers.
“It doesn’t matter what we’re talking about because hearing your voice is like listening to my favorite music. I could do it all day long. Like an enchantress, you enthralled me with your voice.”
Seeing Brynleigh for the first time was like having lived his life in darkness and then stepping into the sunshine. Their connection was deep, powerful, overwhelming, and right.
“You are the moon, shining your brilliant light into my life,” Ryker murmured, his voice deepening. “I lived in darkness before I met you and didn’t even know it. You complete me. I wake daily thinking of you, and you’ve already taught me so much.”
He wanted his wife to be his partner in every way, someone who could help carry his burdens and share every aspect of his life.
I picked you. I Chose you. I will continue to do so until the end of time.”
not worrying about the important people in his life was an impossible request. It was his job. He’d done it for years,
Her presence was a balm to his soul.
Gods, how was it possible to care so much about someone in such a short period of time?
She was his other half, his partner in all things, the woman he was destined to love forever.
She was his everything. His other half. His Chosen partner. His wife.
“It’s like you were missing something, but you didn’t know what it was until they were right before you.”
Why borrow tomorrow’s problems today?
Looking after those he loved wasn’t burdensome for Ryker. It was how he showed affection.
Bindings were eternal commitments blessed by the gods themselves. They could never be broken.
“If the love you share is true, never give up.”
He wouldn’t let Brynleigh go. Not ever again. He would continue to fight for them because deep down, buried beneath the pain, hurt, and sorrow, he still loved her. Even if it killed him, he’d love her until the day he Faded.
Despite the morose reasons for his presence in the desert city, Ryker felt more relaxed than he had in weeks. Maybe talking through texts was easier because it reminded him of how their relationship had started, or maybe it was just because they were both trying to fix things, but things between them almost felt… normal. And it was good.
He’d never met anyone as stunning as her. She was a brilliant moon shining in the night sky after a month of darkness. A flower blooming amid frigid snow. She was everything he’d ever wanted without even knowing he was missing something.
She was an angel of darkness, and he would happily follow her into a starless night.
“Like the moon that rises every night and the stars that follow its lead, I am drawn to you.”
His soul had known they were meant to be.
