“I may not remember much, but I remember this: I’m Madinia Farrow. I don’t need a hulking brute to keep me safe.
I stand by my first thought when I recognized Madinia Farrow. No one should steal her freedom. And the only time she should beg is when she is lost in pleasure.
This woman would slit my throat if she could. And then she would gleefully burn my body to ash. There must be something wrong with me, because that look in her eye makes me want to crush my mouth to hers.
“I hate you.” “Well, sweetheart, I’m currently not too fond of you either.”
“You left me to die again.” I give him a humorless smile. “And yet you’re still here.”
“He will never take you,” he vows. “If ever such a thing was to happen, I would come for you. And I would kill him.” I let out a shuddery breath. “Why?” My voice is hoarse. “Because this universe has laws. I know this in my bones. And one of those laws is that Madinia Farrow is no one’s captive. She is no one’s victim. You know this, despite your terror telling you otherwise.”
“You never should have let me taste you. Now I’ll stop at nothing to make you mine.”
“Stay alive, Calysian.” His expression turns almost tender. “Would you mourn me, sweetheart?” I level him with a hard stare. “No. If you left me alone in this place, I would curse your name and spit on your corpse.” He bursts out laughing. The sound is warm and open, and it curls around me, caressing all kinds of hidden places. “Ah, beautiful woman, I’d expect nothing less.”
“If you think temporary access to my body means you now have the right to determine my actions, you are so very, very wrong,” she whispers. “I will incapacitate you and leave you here before I’ll allow you to give me orders.”
“I hate you.” “I’m not feeling particularly warm towards you this morning either,” he mutters.
“As you die, your last thought will be this: Harming Madinia Farrow was the biggest mistake of your life.”
