Her intentions have never been cruel. They’re just . . . short-sighted. My bisexuality isn’t a secret to anyone, let alone my parents, but the constant shovelling of men down my throat has been something I’ve been dealing with for the last several months.
While she’s never outwardly said anything to admit that she would prefer if I were straight, sometimes it doesn’t take those exact words. Her obvious favouring of men and disinterest in my life where women are involved explains more than an outright admission would.
“You may think that by not telling her you wish she would just like men, that you’re being supportive of her bisexuality, but in all honesty, Mrs. Lemieux, you’re not. What she needs to hear from you is that she’s accepted the way she is, regardless of who she wants to love. And if you can’t do that, then you need to leave her be.
“When I marry a woman, there won’t be a single person in attendance who doesn’t deserve to be there. Sharing blood and DNA doesn’t give anyone access to my most important moments. Those are sacred, and I won’t have them tarnished by unwelcomed faces who were invited solely out of obligation,”
