“Wrong! I called you, needed you, and you weren’t there. I had to bury her alone, and you showed up late to her funeral,” her voice cracked. “Matter fact, go on and kill me already so I don’t have to have this conversation.” Her legs started to shake as Jeffie rubbed her shoulders. “No, please don’t kill me… I was bluffing, I don’t want to die, Mr. Sir.”
Her name was strange, and I was still trying to figure out why her mother waddled into a hospital, had a painful labor, and then decided on the name Greene for a little girl. Each time she checked on me, I wanted to ask her how she felt about her name.
“Last night I came home, and she was in the living room eating snacks and crying watching a movie… loud as shit by the way. I didn’t pay attention to the crumbs I’m sure was on the couch or the volume of the TV, I was more concerned about why she was fucking crying… I don’t like that shit.” Kora smiled as she pushed the box back onto the shelf. “You like her, Mav.” “I still don’t know why the fuck she was crying and the shit still bothering me. Then she don’t want to tell me because this is business.”
I quickly ran across the room. “You don’t think the off-white one is better?” As I held it up to my body, he looked at me weird. “That shit look like a fucking nightgown that a woman that’s not trying to get fucked would wear.” “Okay, Menace… was that necessary?” “You wanted my opinion, right?”
He looked down at his feet, then back up into my eyes. “I didn’t call you and that bothered you. Some other shit bothered you, too, and I want to know why. I also understand that I have to earn that privilege.”
He stared down at me and started laughing while I was bearing my entire soul to him. “Why do you think I’m going to kill you, baby?” If I wasn’t so upset that he was going to kill me, then laughed about my fear, I probably would have swooned at him calling me baby. Except, I was upset that he thought my pain was hilarious.
I reached over and wiped her tear. “It means that I don’t have the right words right now, but I see and hear you. I hate that happened to you, and I hate that you blame yourself because you weren’t to blame, Wonder. You trusted the wrong bitch and he took advantage of you.”
“And promise to never speak to me that way again.” I peered up into his eyes, and his usual harden glare was softened, as he peered back into mine. “I promise to never speak to you like that again.” We both stared at each other before he held my chin and placed his lips onto mine. I stood on my toes as I pushed my lips against his, and he wrapped his arms around me. Pulling away from our kiss, I continued to search his eyes. He was genuine.
She continued to stand there, and I moved her closer to me, resting my forehead on her stomach. Her hand rested on my head, as I hugged her legs, wanting her to be in my skin because her presence brought this calmness I hadn’t experienced in a long time.
Maverick abandoned the doorway and walked over toward me. He pulled me off the stool and hugged me. Put his arms around me and squeezed me as I squeezed him back, needing a hug like this. Despite him initiating the hug, he was still a little stiff, but these were baby steps. The fact that he wanted to comfort me meant a lot to me. “Turn yo’ ass around, Magenta.” She quickly turned around, and he held my face kissing my lips, and grabbing my ass. “Thank you,” I said when we finally broke away from our kiss. “For what?” “The hug. You don’t like hugs, and you hugged me.” “I don’t like hugs, but I

“A woman losing her virginity is a very special moment for her, I heard. I take that seriously, Wonder. I’ve had pussy before, and this ain’t that for me… you’re going to be my wife. This is going to be your first time. I’m not about to rob you of your first time… can’t do that to you.”
“Wonder?” “Yeah?” “With those little ass shorts on, no doubt if the situation was different, I would have sat you on this dick right now.”
I put her down on the second floor, and she looked at me. “This was supposed to be a nice dinner.” “Wonder, you had the nice dinner. I’m not about to sit there and be the villain in all of their origin stories.” I headed up to my room and stopped and looked at her. “Bring yo’ ass… ain’t seen you in two days.”
I searched her eyes. “I want to make you happy, Stevie. Want you to have everything you’ve always wanted and deserve. I’m not perfect and I know I’m a lot to some people… even crazy to some. Promise me that you’re not going to leave me.” Her eyes watered as she looked into mine. “Does everyone leave you, Mavie?” I looked at her. “Eventually.”
“I’m here, Maverick. I can promise you that I’m not go—” “Don’t make promises you intend to break.” She grabbed both sides of my face and kissed my lips. “I don’t intend to break this promise. You have to meet me halfway. Don’t do things that will push me away… okay?” “Yeah.”
“You got a crush on your future husband, Wonder?” I fucked with her, and she looked away while blushing. “Nah, come say that shit in my face.” “You say it first, Mitchell.” “I got a crush on Wanda.” She sucked her teeth. “Why you had to say it with that name… say it with my name, Maverick.” I licked my lips before kissing her. “I have a big ass crush on Stevie.”
“Have you ever got head on a jet before, Mavie?” When I hesitated, she rolled her eyes. “Seriously, Maverick?” “The fuck you want me to say, baby? I had a life before you came into mine… I can say I ain’t never had head by someone that I would kiss after.” She was satisfied with my answer. “I can accept that.”
Ain’t nobody ever been in this shit. It was fucking pure, untouched, and I was gonna be the only nigga to ever be inside of it, eventually planting a seed right in it, too.
“Because I am in love with you, Maverick. I can’t even think of leaving you, even though that was all I wanted to do when I first met you. The thought of you sitting in that house alone before you met me brings tears to my eyes. You are complicated, and some days I wanna choke you because why can’t you just fucking flush the toilet once… but those are the things that I love. You aren’t weird, baby, you are unique. Different isn’t a flaw, it’s a feature.” He kissed the back of my hand. “I love you, too, Stevie.”
He held my waist, with one hand on my ass, as I rubbed his beard. “You’re beautiful, Maverick.” “Oh yeah?” I kissed every part of his face. “Yes. I know there are some things that you have gone through that makes you feel less than that, but to me you are beautiful. Every flaw, quirk, and part of you is beautiful to me.”
“I’m trying to come to terms that I have you, and I deserve you. That’s not a you problem, it’s a me problem.”
“She made our paths cross, had me fall in love with you, and you are going to take Raye out… this is his karma. She wanted her baby girl to have protection, and I never got it from the one man that was supposed to protect me.”
Looking away, I looked back into his eyes. “I want to give you my virginity.” His brow raised. “Oh yeah?” “I’m ready.” “How you know I’m ready?” I snorted. “You’ve done this before… plenty of times.” “Not with you, Stevie.” He kissed my neck and wrapped his arms around me, as I held onto him. This moment couldn’t have been more perfect, and although I was a woman already, I was ready to become his woman and give him my most precious gift.
I had gone so long without affection from the opposite sex that this shit was better than sex. People confused affection with sex, and I had gotten plenty of sex through the years.
“I really love you, Maverick. You taking my virginity means something to me. I’ve held onto it my whole life, and you are who I want to give it to. You defended it before you even knew me. Never once tried to claim it as yours, baby. Mav, you protected me when you didn’t have to.”
I looked down at the box before staring up into her eyes. “You are what home feels like to me, Wonder. My house has never felt like home until you came. I wanted to ignore how I felt about you, but I couldn’t…. you wouldn’t allow me to. Always there with that smile on your face, being you. Baby, you are you without any apologies. You accept me and all that comes with me without judging me. Stevie, you are my safe place, and my biggest trigger. You see past Menace and see me in a way that I never let anyone else see me. You love me with all my flaws and shit because you love me. You are my

He laughed and carried me out of the gym, across the hall where the sauna was. “I don’t want you to question where you fit in my life, Wonder. I told you where I want you, so let me come home and you not in that bed again… we gonna have a problem.” I smiled. “Okay.”
“I’m inside my fucking wife and you calling me, so this shit better be fucking good, or when I finish, I’m kicking somebody’s head off their shoulders.” I kissed his shoulder as he continued on his conversation.
He kissed my stomach. “I’m saying it because I think you are ready to be my wife. Forever ain’t shit that I ever believed in until I met you. I want forever with you and I want to take care of you. This house has never had love in it, and you came in and brought that shit with you. The staff loves you, Wonder. You brighten their day when you come down humming or giving them a canvas that yo’ ass never finished but got them looking at it like it’s a deeper meaning to it.”
“She could have left the first night she arrived,” Duke answered. “I’ve been with Mens for a while, and when he first laid eyes on you, I knew you were different. He paced the front of the house for an hour before walking in the first night you came to the house. If he wanted to kill you, he would have and Skyler wouldn’t have stopped that.”
“You have my heart, Stevie Caselli,” he broke our silence and kissed my lips, while rubbing the side of my face. I smiled and rubbed his face. “You have mine, Maverick Caselli.”
“I know for a fact I put Dennis inside of you.” “Maverick, we aren’t naming our baby Dennis.” “Why?” He slapped my ass again. “Cause that’s ugly.”
“I only want a child… so I can be the baby mama from hell when you leave me, Mitchell.” “Wanda, the fuck is you talking about?” “You are trying to get rid of me and I don’t like that shit.”
“You not sleeping anywhere but in this bed with me, Wonder. Go and do your little stomps and talking to yourself but get yo ass in this bed next to me so I can lay on you and sleep.” “I’ll fart,” I threatened. “I’ll inhale it.”
He kissed me, and I kissed him back. “She don’t mean shit to me, Stevie. I need you to know that.” “Yeah.” I laid my head on his chest, before climbing off him and going to use the bathroom. When I came back, I climbed into bed, and he got into his favorite position as I rubbed his head while staring up at the ceiling until I heard soft snores.
I never wanted to imagine a world without my baby, and her leaving our home and being gone was something I never wanted to experience again. Stevie came into my life and shook shit up, made me anxious, nervous, and intrigued all at one time. While she triggered the fuck out of me, I couldn’t stay away from her. We were learning each other, and I think she knew me best. She handled me with care, and she never judged. No matter how stupid something that I had to do was, she always respected that.
