“Would do anything to rid you of every single one of your monsters.”
“I know you ...

It was my specialty. Sniffing out the demons that lie in the shadows. Dragging them out into the light. The light, my ass.
“It’s okay. I’ve got you,” she promised. God, she did. She’d always had me. Didn’t think she knew the extreme of what that meant.
“Nah, Moonflower. You are the epitome of strength. I just don’t think the rest of us really know what that means.”
“Fuck, Raven. I wish you understood. Wish you understood I would give anything to be right for you.”
But something else entirely took me over when I saw what was written all over him. Fury and desire. Fear and desperation. Hunger and rage. And he was coming straight for me.
This fuckin’ fierce, innocent, beautiful girl who was nothing but a light in the middle of the darkness.
“You think I wouldn’t stand in front of every bullet for you? Take every blow for you? Suffer any consequence?”
“It’s not your place.” Even coming from her mouth, it sounded like a lie.
“Isn’t it? Isn’t standing for you what I’m supposed to do? Isn’t it what I’ve always been meant to do?”
It’d been me she’d come to when she was afraid. Me who’d held her. Me who’d chased away the nightmares. But when everything had gone to shit, I’d known I had to put a barrier between us. Erect and fortify it. See to it that neither of us could break through. No question, what had gone down between us last night had put more than a dent in the surface. It’d created a crack right through the foundation.
“Maybe you are meant for me. In every way.” She answered my demand in that throaty lilt. Pushing even farther into the perilous territory I’d been toeing.
“Tell me to stop. Tell me not to touch you. Tell me you don’t want this,” I demanded.
She laughed a brittle, disbelieving sound. “The only thing I’ve ever wanted is for you to touch me. Haven’t you heard my body begging for it?”
“You want me to touch you again, Moonflower?”
“You think these arms weren’t made to hold you? You think I’m not made to carry every-fucking-thing that you are?”
“You’ve always glowed beneath the darkness, and you’re about to glow for me.”
“You’re already mine, Raven. You’re already mine.”
“Careful with the way you’re looking at me.”
“I can’t look away.”
“I’m not breakable, Otto. And if I was, I’d want you to be the one to break me.”
“Sweet fuckin’ moonflower.”
“Good girl,”
“Told you I’d stand in front of every bullet if it meant keeping you safe.”
“Because you don’t want to, Otto? Because you really don’t see me the way I see you? Or because you’re the one who’s afraid?”
“Because I’m no good, Raven. Because you don’t know who I really am. Because you’d be disgusted if you knew.”
“Because yes, Raven, I’m terrified of hurting you.”
There was no forgetting Raven Tayte because no matter how painful it was, this woman was carved on my heart and written in my soul.
“Watch it, darlin’. You don’t want to push me to the edge.”
Here…here was where I found peace. Freedom. A feeling of completion. The open road and this woman tacked to me on the back of my bike. Which shouldn’t give me so much satisfaction considering she didn’t belong to me, but I was having a harder and harder time thinking of her as anything but that. Mine.
“You are the first thought I have when I open my eyes in the morning and the last one before I go to sleep. You are the thunder in my veins and the chaos in my spirit. You are everything I want and the one thing I’m not supposed to have.”
“What I feel for you is endless, Raven Tayte. So, you want me to tell you exactly what that means?”
“It means I’m so fuckin’ in love with you, so fuckin’ gone for you, that there’s no chance my world could spin right without you in it. So fuckin’ in love with you that I feel like I’m ripping apart every time...

“You’re mine, Raven. Always have been.”
“Just like you’ve always been mine.”
“Yeah, darlin’. You’ve always had me enchanted.”
“Needy girl.”
“You’re mine now, and I have every intention of making good on it.”
I will make it to the sunrise.
Still, I took her palm that’d been against my lips and splayed it over the boom that clanged in the middle of my chest. “It’s always been yours.”
“You have everything, Raven. You own every part of me.”
“You are in so much trouble, Little Moonflower.”
“I heard Raven having a nightmare.” What bullshit. She hadn’t had one in two weeks. Not since he’d been going to her. Not since he’d been holding her.
“Is this what you were meant to be, Little Moonflower? Mine?”
“Yes. Just like you were meant to be mine.”
God knew I was going to lose control in front of everyone there with her dressed like that. Woman looking like the only place she belonged was on the back of my bike.
“I’ll always come to you, Moonflower.”
“You are my heaven, Raven. Fuckin’ paradise. Everything I never thought I’d have.”
“You are the light inside of me, Raven. Only thing that could ever lead me out of the dark. Gonna love you through it all. Under every endless moon. And when dawn finally breaks, I will watch you rise.”
