“Wouldn’t leave you, Raven.”
“Told you I would never let anyone hurt you again, and I meant it.”
This girl who fit me like a glove who I forever had to keep at arm’s length.
“You fuckin’ count, Raven. Count more than anyone else.”
Don’t push me, Raven. You don’t want to see what it looks like when I come unhinged. Think it’s best if you keep your conquests to yourself. Don’t want to think of you with another man, and I sure as fuck don’t want to watch you with one.
“Look at you, Raven. Look at who you are. If you could only see the way I see you. You are brave and strong. So goddamn beautiful. A bloom in the middle of the darkest night.”
Don’t worry, darlin’. I’m home safe and sound. Like I’d ever dream of leaving you.
Needed to see your face because you’re the only thing in this world that keeps me sane. Only thing that grounds me to reality when I feel it slipping.
“You wouldn’t want to see me obsessed, Raven.”
“You’re my favorite fuckin’ person in the world, Raven. What makes you think I wouldn’t want you at my house?”
“But you have to be honest with him, too. Tell him what you want. Otherwise, it’s gonna be a fight. And you deserve everything in this world that might bring you happiness.”
“You have a lot of faith in me.”
“I have all the faith in you.”
“You keep forgetting that you’re my favorite person in the world.”
I wanted to be more than his favorite. I wanted to be his everything.
What made it worse was she kept looking at me like I might be worthy. Like I was some fucking hero with a cape when I was bred of nothing but corruption and calamity.
“I’m wrapped around you on your bike all the time, Otto. I think I can handle being wrapped in your sheets.”
“Just so you know, you’re my favorite person, too.”
“You are brave. So goddamn brave. Look at you, the way you smile and shine all your beauty into this world. Spreading joy like it’s gushing out of you. It’s a better fuckin’ place because of you, Raven Tayte.”
“It’s where I want to be, Raven. Right here with you whenever you need me.”
“Then stay. You make it better, Otto.”
“Would be the luckiest man alive, getting to touch you. But I swore to myself a long time ago that I would never hurt you, and I fuckin’ meant it.”
“I read these stories because I want to be swept away. Because I want to imagine this happening to me. And every time, I wish it was you.” She kept right on, that chin held high. “I touch myself, wishing it was you. It’s you. It’s always you.”
“I’m not worthy of touching you, Raven. Not even close.”
“To me, you’re the only one who is.”
“You deserve the whole fuckin’ world, Raven Tayte. To be loved and adored. Touched in every way you want to be. But I’m not that guy.”
“Don’t think I’ve ever wanted anything so badly in my life.” He ground out the confession. “The way you’ve been driving me out of my mind, here under my roof. In my house and under my skin.”
“I need to know that things won’t change between us. Need to know I’ll always be your favorite person the way you’ll always be mine. Can’t stand the idea of anything coming between us.”
“I would never regret a second spent with you, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to like you even better after you touch me. You’re about to take favorite to new levels.”
“Never have seen anything more gorgeous than this, Raven. Looking up at you. Lit up by the moon. Stealin’ my breath. Fuckin’ with my head.”
“It’s my breath that’s gone. Seeing you like this. Touching this face that has followed me into every dream. Being with the only person who could ever save me from the nightmares. The only one that ever made me feel safe. The one who made me sure I wanted to discover what it is like to be taken. Completely and fully.”
“Showing you the way you deserve to be touched. The way you deserve to be adored. The treasure you are.”
“It’s all I want, Raven. Only thing I want is for you to feel good. Want to make you feel that way forever.”
“I’ve always seen you, Raven.”
“How, when this is the way it’s supposed to be? It’s always been you, Otto. You have always been my safe place. My secret place.”
“I wish I could be more, Raven. Wish I could be everything.”
“Death by your brother is what it’s likely to be, but I’m fairly certain it would be worth it. Seeing your face when you came around my fingers. I’m never going to forget it.”
“You are worth it, Raven. You are worth everything. But I don’t want to wreck what we are.”
“What are we, Otto? Because this feels like us to me.”
“Fuck, Raven. I wish you understood. Wish you understood I would give anything to be right for you.”
“No one gets to fuck with you, Raven. Not on my watch.”
“You think I wouldn’t stand in front of every bullet for you? Take every blow for you? Suffer any consequence?”
“Isn’t it? Isn’t standing for you what I’m supposed to do? Isn’t it what I’ve always been meant to do?”
“Maybe you are meant for me. In every way.”
“The only thing I’ve ever wanted is for you to touch me. Haven’t you heard my body begging for it?”
“You think these arms weren’t made to hold you? You think I’m not made to carry every-fucking-thing that you are?”
“You’re already mine, Raven. You’re already mine.”
“You’re fuckin’ perfect, Raven Tayte. So goddamn perfect. You got me wrecked.”
Otto’s entire being shifts whenever you come into the room. You’re his gravity, Raven.”
“I won’t. I promise you I won’t let anyone get to you. Promise I’ll stand in the fire.”
