The leader quirked a brow, turning his curious stare toward where Caldris watched from beside him. “This mate of yours suits you. She’s vicious.” “Isn’t she?” Caldris agreed.
But what you can be is an avenging fury on the battlefield.” He leaned into my space, finishing in a growl, “And I cannot wait to see you burn it all to the ground.”
“Sometimes, we fight with the most fervor against those things that we need most,” he said, his voice dropping lower until it was barely more than a murmur.
“The significant difference being that you understand how our verbal spats are as much foreplay as when I have you beneath me?” he murmured, the deep timbre of his voice brushing against my skin.
Some secrets were better left in the dark.
I was not made for war. I was made for peace and a cuddly blanket in a comfortable chair in a library with a book in my hand. And I was so tired of the fucking cold.
