Neither side had yet moved to fortify the even higher ground of the Dorchester peninsula overlooking the harbor. With its numerous green hills falling away to blue water, it was a particularly beautiful part of the world and especially in summer. Washington thought it “very delightful country,” and more the pity that it should be a theater of war.
