Now muster your troops, O daughter [2] of troops; siege is laid against us; with a rod p they strike the judge of Israel on the cheek.
“Woe to him e who builds a town with blood and founds a city on iniquity!
13“You are the salt of the earth, k but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.
16“And t when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others.
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
10And a man was there with a withered hand. And they asked him, i “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”— j so that they might accuse him.
Knowing their thoughts, a he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand. 26And
if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?
An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” So n he left them and departed.
24For g false christs and h false prophets will arise and i perform great signs and wonders, h so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.
This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; 7 in vain do they worship me, teaching as z doctrines the commandments of men.’
35And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, c “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”
“Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and e whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.”
“‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone;
33For John the Baptist has come p eating no bread and q drinking no wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ 34The Son of Man has come r eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, s a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ 35Yet t wisdom is justified by all her children.”
48but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”
12And t Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before this they had been at enmity with each other.
21For as the Father j raises the dead and k gives them life, so l also the Son gives life m to whom he will. 22
39They answered him, m “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, n “If you were Abraham’s children, you would be doing the works Abraham did, 40but now o you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth
16Truly, truly, I say to you, n a servant [3] is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
34 t A new commandment u I give to you, v that you love one another: w just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 x By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
“Let not your hearts be troubled. e Believe in God; [1] believe also in me.
‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me,
13When t the Spirit of truth comes, u he will v guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but w whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
31Pilate said to them, w “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.” The Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death.” 32 x This was to fulfill the word that Jesus had spoken y to show by what kind of death he was going to die.
36Jesus answered, b “My kingdom c is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, d my servants would have been fighting, that e I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”
Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that f the stone had been taken away from the tomb.
46And Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, “It was necessary that the word of God k be spoken first to you. l Since you thrust it aside and judge yourselves m unworthy of eternal life, behold, we n are turning to the Gentiles.
“Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent, 10 n for I am with you, and o no one will attack you to harm you, for p I have many in this city who are my people.”
29But a Jew is one u inwardly, and v circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. w His praise is not from man but from God.
9Is this blessing then only for a the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? b For we say that faith was counted to Abraham as righteousness. 10How then was it counted to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised.
9Since, therefore, n we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from o the wrath of God.
17But if z some of the branches were broken off, and you, a although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root [3] of the olive tree, 18do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you.
14I thank God that I baptized none of you except x Crispus and y Gaius, 15so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name.
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has m prepared n for those who love him”—
Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, w so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
For neither circumcision counts for anything nor uncircumcision, but q keeping the commandments of God.
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
e Love is patient and f kind; love g does not envy or boast; it h is not arrogant 5or rude. It i does not insist on its own way; it j is not irritable or resentful; [2] 6it k does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but l rejoices with the truth. 7 m Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, e endures all things.
3Do nothing from k selfish ambition or l conceit, but in m humility count others more significant than yourselves.
12I thank him x who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, y appointing me to his service, 13though formerly I was a blasphemer, z persecutor, and insolent opponent.
Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you v by prophecy when the council of elders w laid their hands on you.
8 x “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, y “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
8And I looked, and behold, s a pale horse! And its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed him. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill t with sword and with famine and with pestilence and u by wild beasts of the earth.
12When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, i there was a great earthquake, and j the sun became black as k sackcloth, the full moon became like blood, 13and l the stars of the sky fell to the earth m as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale.
8 When the Lamb opened u the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 2Then I saw the seven angels v who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.
“If anyone u worships the beast and its image and receives v a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10he also will drink w the wine of God’s wrath, x poured full strength into the cup of his anger, and y he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.
