“So, who is she?” On this day, where everything feels like a sign, I don’t hesitate when I say, “My future wife.”
“Does this mean the honeymoon phase is over already?” “I hate you!” “See you at home, wifey!”
She’s so pretty and sometimes a little mean. It’s a lethal combination for me.
“But you didn’t ask to be in another unwanted marriage. Well…” He bobs his head from side to side. “You definitely did ask. Multiple times. Begged me, really.”
“Eyes are up here, wifey.” “I’m a doctor, Rhodes. Aced anatomy, in fact. I know where your eyes are located. I just don’t care right now.”
“She’s not going to be dating anybody. I just need the next few months to inform her of that.”
Our wedding song is on full blast as Isaiah makes his way to the plate, but before he gets there, he turns back in my direction. With the entire stadium singing the song I walked down the aisle to, Isaiah extends his bat, points at me, and winks. He fucking winks. It’s the moment reality hits me… Miller was right. I think I might have a crush on my husband.
I want this. These simple, normal moments that couples have, but I only want them with her and I want them to be real.
“I missed you too.” And I swear to God I’m living in an alternate reality because in what world do I get to hear that Kennedy Kay missed me.
I stand there, watching, trying to figure out what I did to get so lucky that I ended up in this position. If you would’ve told me three years ago that Kennedy Kay would be laying naked and spread on my mattress, I probably would’ve fucked my hand to the idea, but I definitely wouldn’t have believed you.
“I’m a married man, Montgomery. I don’t flirt.” He bends over the back of my chair as I crane my neck up to look at him. “Except with you. I like flirting with you.
“God,” he exhales, palm sliding over my head. “The best girl.” “Your only girl,” I correct him. “Damn straight you are.”
