Those two little words stop me in my tracks. My name. She sounds good saying my name. She sounds good begging too.
There’s been only one woman who has held my interest and now that she’s no longer wearing another man’s engagement ring, spending my time with anyone else holds zero appeal.
I sang a rendition of Mariah Carey’s “Touch My Body” and we left as soon as the older women started taking the lyrics literally.
“Aw, Monty,” I coo, throwing an arm over his shoulders. “You want to grow old with me?” “Get your ass on the field, Rhodes.”
And boxer briefs tight enough to make it clear why this man is so popular.
I’m booed on my way up to bat and it only makes me smile. Flattering if you ask me, that I’ve scored so much in this stadium that Atlanta’s fanbase remembers me.
“That’s it? You’re not going to tell me what a good boy I am for not getting in a fist fight with your brother?” “You want me to call you a good boy?” “Mmm, yes, please. Preferably while we’re naked and you’re on top of me, but now would do too.” That smile I’m quickly becoming addicted to blooms. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
Well, no one but Connor, who I spot watching us out of the corner of his eye as we take our seats. So I make sure to drop a chaste kiss to the back of Kennedy’s freckled hand before I let it go. His jaw works. I fucking love it. This is going to be fun.
“Eyes are up here, wifey.” “I’m a doctor, Rhodes. Aced anatomy, in fact. I know where your eyes are located. I just don’t care right now.”
“Oh, no, baby. That’s where you’re wrong.
There’s nothing little about me. Maybe one day you’ll learn exactly what kind of size I’m working with.”
His chuckle is dark. “Oh baby, I told you already. I’m a good boy, especially when I want something.”
I knew he was big, I could feel it, but I didn’t realize he was this…blessed.
“I’m perfect.” “I know.” He kisses my throat. “I’ve been trying to tell you.”
I toss my head from side to side. “If I had it my way, it’d stay down.”
I was a human pillow for Isaiah Rhodes, and I’ve never slept better.
“You thought I was possessive before we fucked? I feel fucking unhinged now.”
“Really?” Isaiah holds his hands out. “My own family and no one is going to say hi to me?” “No,” Kai quickly answers.
“I remember every single thing about you, Kenny. In case you haven’t figured it out already, you’re my favorite subject to study.”
If Dr. Fredrick was going to fire me, he would’ve done it a long time ago, but he knows he can’t because I’ve done nothing to warrant it. Well, other than marrying one of his players. And blowing said player in the restroom at work. God, that was fun.
My face softens into a smile. How was there ever a day that I wasn’t completely and utterly gone for this guy?
“I love you,” I tell him, using the same words he found written on the signature line of our divorce papers. “It may have taken me a bit longer to allow myself to open my eyes and see it, but there’s no doubt in my mind that I love you. Every part of you. The parts you show everyone and the parts you show only me.”
“I don’t want to wait any longer. This is torture.” “Jesus, Isaiah,” Kai laughs. “It’s only been a few hours since you’ve seen her.” “You don’t get to say anything,” I argue back. “You were far worse on your wedding day.”
