When Sunny stops laughing, she swings her gaze over to me. I haven’t even begun skating, and I can’t seem to catch my breath.
“Have you lost your mind? If you fall…” Rhodes swoops me up a millisecond before I land on the hard ice. It’s unbelievable how often he catches me when I fall.
“For the record, I’m always paying attention to you,” he admits. I roll my eyes. “You are not.”
“You told me to be the rational one.” He nods. “I did.”
She’s just as into this as I am. My sweet Sunshine, always bright with a smile on her face, is nowhere in sight. Instead, there is a sexy-as-sin woman who makes my blood sing by just existing.
I stare at her with my heart fumbling in my chest. I’d give it to her if she asked for it. Shit.
A slow smile creeps on my face. “I think I’m going to keep you, Sunny Edwards.” Her quiet laugh is music to my ears. “Oh, yeah? For how long?” I grab her hand and interlace our fingers. “For forever.”
I slept like shit, practiced like shit, and we’re playing like shit.
Only, this time, I’m not afraid. I’m devastated.
My eyes are watery, but so are his. I’ve never seen him so…vulnerable. “I lied.” He swallows thickly. “I promised I wouldn’t fall in love with you, and I did.”
When Sunny peeks up and sees me leaning against the opening, her smile grows wider. It knocks the breath right out of my chest.
Her back presses against my front, and I wrap my arms around her waist, bringing her in even closer. God, I fucking love her.
