I’m happy for the first time in six years because of you.
His smile is so gentle I can barely stand to look at him.
“You want to burn the whole world to ash, just to make sure every path she walks is cleared for her. I know the feeling.”
I love him. I love him so fucking much it terrifies me.
If only I could have kept hating him, because I’m never, ever going to recover from Ben Tate. I think I knew I wouldn’t, even that first day we met.
“Or too much of a sociopath,” I suggest. “Too busy trying to get rid of the teenage girls he trapped in his basement.” She frowns at me. “I’ve been to his house. He doesn’t have a basement.”

“What would we even find to do here after ten?” I ask, and Ben steps on my foot to shut me up.
“And Julie?” He shakes his head. “No. She’s just weird.
So, these two lawyers are crazy about each other and refuse to admit it until he fingers her in his office. And then he takes her away somewhere like Santa Barbara and proposes because they’re too busy to go to Iceland.”
