“Don’t you fucking do that,” I say in French. Her eyebrows shoot up. “Excuse me?” I switch to English, so there’s no mistaking my words. “Don’t smile at me when you don’t mean it. Don’t pretend you’re okay if you’re not. Not with me.”
“Marry me.” Her eyes snap up, wide with shock. “What did you say?”
“I thought I made myself clear. I would never fuck anyone else while I’m married to you.” The words slip past my gritted teeth. “And don’t even think about being with anyone else, either.”
“Careful with those sounds, Trésor.”
“From the moment we sign this contract throughout the entire marriage, both parties agree that physical and emotional needs will be met by each other. No one else.”
“I can be a jealous man when it comes to what’s mine.” It doesn’t sound like he’s only talking about Ruby.
“No soy el tesoro de nadie (I’m no one’s treasure),” I say, knowing he won’t understand. “Eres mucho más que eso (You’re so much more than that).”
“Soleil,” he says. She tilts her head. “As in the sun?” He nods. “My sun.”
“Why do you call me that?” “Because you light up my world.”
“You’re everything I’ve ever wanted beneath the sunshine.”
