“If you aren’t careful, little hummingbird, I may have to use that mouth to set you straight.” He leans in closer, and my knees go weak as his lips hover over my ear. “But maybe that’s exactly what you want… maybe you’re sick of being good, yeah?”
“You’ve never been on a bike, which was obvious before you told me,” he says curtly. “And no woman has been on mine—ever.”
“I want to find out who Brinley Rose Beaumont is when, for once, she chooses herself. I want to be there when she finally lets herself be as wicked as she craves.”
“What scares you? When I say that you’re mine or that you aren’t safe?” he asks in a low voice. “Both.” I gulp. “I’m not sure what scares me more. Being with you or being away from you,” I answer honestly.
The lock of the door behind him says everything loud and clear. I am his to see, to use, to mold, however he wants. But he’s not mine.
“Only you, Brinley.” He squeezes tight to my ass. “It’s only you I’ve ever felt the need to possess, to claim for my own.”
“No, little bird. I am your home.” He lets my hand fall to my side as I stand here just dumbfounded by his words before he adds, “And I’m not taking you to the clubhouse.”
“I don’t need to explain any of it to you. You’re alive because I can’t fucking bear the thought of this pulse not beating for me, and that’s the only reason I can give you,”
“You will hold no space to fear anything in this world except me. If anyone threatens you or tries to hurt you, they will be met with a suffering so deep that Lucifer himself will beg mercy for their souls. I’ll tear the flesh from their bones one layer at a time and rejoice like the angel of bloodshed I was trained to be.”
“We all have angels watching over us, even you. Maybe you’ve just been riding faster than yours can fly. Maybe it’s time to slow down a little.” I feel her smirk against me. “Let them catch up.”
“But let me be clear, little hummingbird. The only one who can save you is me. And the only one who can breathe life into my dark soul is you. We save each other.”
“The day I met you was a rift in time. From that rift forward, there is only before I met you and all the days to follow. I just don’t think the word love means enough to describe that.”
In his eyes, I’m always strong. I’m always capable. I’m simply and beautifully me.
