When we associate ourselves with bad people or maintain substandard relationships, we are told to separate from them. Why not use this same concept if you’re stuck in an environment that’s detrimental to your healing process?

Sometimes the better choice to make is not always the right choice. Because as humans, our hearts are fueled by desire and when the better choice comes with a madness so beautiful, so reckless, so magnetic, the only thing we know how to do is cross boundaries and break rules to get acquainted with the force that breathes life back into us.

Here’s the truth about my beliefs with time. It’s simple—I don’t believe time makes anything better. I think time offers us small periods to forget the pain and small windows that trigger us to remember what caused it. I despise when people say time heals everything. Because it doesn’t.  You do not heal. You cope. You patch the pain with a band-aid.

I’ve spent my life letting go without really facing my pain. My pain has been a bully, a monster lurking in a half-open closet. It’s twisted beautiful moments, turning flowers into nightmares. It’s kept me from committing, held me hostage in fear of disappointment. My fears have held me back from truly living and feeling. If I continue to let them control me, they will only keep me from the freedom I sought and found with Mars.
