“I’ve remade you. A perfect living doll. A slave to my every need. Such a pretty thing.” A greyish tongue darts out, swiping across his mismatched teeth. “You’ll be such fun to play with.”
She could stay with me. Be mine. Pour light into the emptiness of my never-ending existence. If she stayed with me, I would never feel the vast loneliness amongst the crowd again. If she stayed with me, everything would be as it was meant to be.
“It’s short for Seraphim. Because even though heaven isn’t what you mortals believe it to be, and even though I’ve never believed them to exist, when I saw you, I thought you were an angel. Sera…” I stroke my thumb across her cheekbone to wipe away the tear that she’s shed. “When I saw you, my first thought was that I’d never seen any creature in the entirety of the mortal world or any of the levels of the Hallows as beautiful as you.”
