“I’ve been watching you.” “Just because you look the way you do…” she let her gaze travel down his body and back to his face, “doesn’t make that statement not creepy.”
“Do you have a fever?” Gannon slapped a hand to his forehead and frowned. “No. I don’t think so.” “My mama says you’re hot, hot, hot.”
Now was a clusterfuck, the fuckiest clusterfuck in the history of clusterfuckery.
“Usually the only thing that makes a woman look the way you look is a penis that turns into an asshole.”
The woman put the bottle back on the top shelf. “Eventually you learn they’re all assholes in their own special snowflake kind of way.” She wasn’t wearing a wedding ring, Paige noted without surprise. “So what are we supposed to do?” She shrugged strong, lean shoulders. “Love ‘em anyway or switch teams.”
“Look at you being accommodating.” “I can be accommodating. Charming, too. Handsome, strong, fairly intelligent, high tolerance for pain, I can hold my liquor, and I make a decent red sauce.” He counted off his attributes.
Was happiness the same as success? The answer inside her was a resounding “no.” Success wasn’t the same as happiness.
“So that’s how long I’ve loved you. Twenty-one months, twelve days, and,” he checked his watch. “Ten hours.”
“You’re the best person I’ve ever known in my life, and if you tell Nonni that, I’ll call you a dirty liar. But you are the best, Paige. You’re smart and driven and so damn sexy and strong. You put up with me without crying all the time—except for right now. And I can’t think of anyone in the world I’d rather share my life and this house with.”
