They ate side-by-side against the upholstered headboard, and she shot longing looks at him until he finally ripped off part of his burger and gave it to her. “Happy now?”
They were officially dating whether Paige liked it or not, whether she acknowledged it or not. And he wasn’t leaving her side.
Cat snickered and then tossed over her shoulder, “By the way, when were you going to feel like telling me you spent the night with Paige?” “What are you talking about?” he hedged. “You smell like Paige’s coconut shampoo.”
Now was a clusterfuck, the fuckiest clusterfuck in the history of clusterfuckery.
His gaze traveled to Paige, hovering in the doorway just behind Louis as he filmed. She was beautiful. Not punch-in-the-gut fashion model beautiful. She was no Meeghan Traxx, thank God. That was a mistake he’d never make again. That kind of beautiful came at a very steep price with very little return. Paige, on the other hand, was the kind of girl you wanted to take home to bed and would have no qualms inviting her to Sunday dinner at the parents’. She was real.
“Usually the only thing that makes a woman look the way you look is a penis that turns into an asshole.” Paige snorted despite herself. How apt. “That’s a pretty accurate assessment,” she nodded. The woman put the bottle back on the top shelf. “Eventually you learn they’re all assholes in their own special snowflake kind of way.”
The brownstone rose four stories out of a tiny brick courtyard within a low wall that butted up against the sidewalk. The front of the building boasted a trio of arched windows on each floor except for the lower level, which lost one window to the tall front stairs in the same milk chocolate tone as the rest of the façade. If Paige’s dream home had stepped off her secret Pinterest board, it had landed right here on 7th Street.
“Slow your roll, King. I’m saying yes to the job, and I’m saying I’m not interested to the relationship.” “I accept your yes, and we’ll see about your ‘not interested.’”
“I can be accommodating. Charming, too. Handsome, strong, fairly intelligent, high tolerance for pain, I can hold my liquor, and I make a decent red sauce.” He counted off his attributes.
warning look. “Here’s your first bit of family business. I’m in love with Paige here, but she won’t give me the time of day. So I’m going to be wearing her down during the course of this shoot, and I’d appreciate you all singing my praises to her.”
“Paige.” The teasing left his tone. “Don’t downplay what we have.” “Had,” she corrected automatically. He stared her down, heat flashing behind those deep hazel eyes. “Don’t downplay my feelings for you.”
“One thing,” he said, eyes boring into her. “We’re in a relationship.”
And as they laughed around the dining room table, Gannon realized he had everything he’d ever wanted. A brainy, sexy, stubborn woman who made him want to be a better man, one his grandmother and sister adored.
it would create more issues for Paige than solve. Paige needed to stand on her own two feet and flash her own two middle fingers. But that didn’t mean he wouldn’t be standing right behind her ready to kick ass should she ask him to.
“He doesn’t want to force you into going public if you’re not ready.” He’d do that for her. It would piss him off, but he’d play pretend if that’s what he thought she wanted.
