How tragic that a woman’s worth equated to the depth of a man’s pockets.
anathema,
Long, black hair lay strewn about her pillow and plastered to her sweaty brow. Porcelain skin that carried the soft pink of a fever. Full, bow-shaped lips, slightly parted. Fucking beautiful.
Like an enchanting goddess, she slept soundly, a fringe of long, black lashes fluttering against the top of her cheeks, while her body succumbed to his power.
Raivox.”
“Can I at least ask your name? So that I’m not mentally calling you angry eyes?” A sound of disapproval followed. “Zevander.” “Zevander,” I echoed. “I’m Maevyth.” “I didn’t ask.”
“Ith’tu somninis profundiet,”
Lunamiszka.”
“It means you’re persistently frustrating and you ask too many questions.”
The first and only thought I could summon was Zevander.
She was beautiful. No, beautiful was too weak a word. She was intoxicating. Exquisitely divine.
Lunamiszka.”
He hooked a finger beneath my chin and drew my attention back to him. “Tell me.”
He lurched toward me, clamped his hand around my nape, and crushed his lips to mine.
She was chaos wrapped in fine silk. The embodiment of trouble that’d nearly brought him to his fucking knees when he’d first laid eyes on her across the ballroom. So achingly beautiful, his chest hurt.
“Fuck it all, you stubborn bastard. She’s your mate, Zevander!”
After his mate.
A growl rumbled from his chest. “Because I’m a jealous cunt who refuses to entertain thoughts of you lying next to another man. Is that explanation enough?”
“Had you not taunted me with your …” I clamped the spicy words on my tongue that begged to be cut loose. “I’m not as naive as you think. I’m well aware you’ve got all this … experience with women. And that you think I’m just this stupid little mortal who–” His lips seized mine, silencing me.
“Your beauty is unrivaled, Maevyth.”
“You look like a goddess right now,” he whispered, burying his face in my neck, kissing me. He ghosted his mouth over my jaw, my cheek, until he finally crushed his lips to mine. “And you taste as divine.”
He quickly captured my retreating hand and held it to his chest, as if to assure me it wasn’t rejection. “I want you. I want you so desperately that I’d kill anything with a pulse just to have you for one night. This insatiable craving I feel …” A muscle in his jaw twitched with the tension in his words and he squeezed my hand. “I can’t fucking breathe. I ache for you, Maevyth. Believe me when I say this.”
The girl with the moon in her eyes and fire in her soul.
“You consume me entirely, little moon witch.”
“You are mine, moon witch. For all eternity and whatever lies beyond it. No soul has ever been more intricately woven into mine than yours.” My heart lurched with his words, the cynical creature inside of me loosening its grip. I ran my fingertips over his cheek and the wretched black scar there. “And you are mine,” I whispered.
