He was a man who believed in signs. He just didn’t know what to do with this one.
He settled for brushing his lips against her furrowed brow. He heard the quiet intake of breath, watched her part her lips. Saw her eyes zero in on his mouth. An invitation. An anticipation. But if he kissed her now, he wouldn’t stop. And that wasn’t what he brought her here to do.
“Wait here. I’ll saddle the horses.” * * * They were the sexiest words ever uttered to Summer in her twenty-six years of living.
Summer snickered. “Come on. You can walk back with me.” “And set off the town rumor mill? By the way, since I took you for ice cream the other night, they’re predicting a November wedding. You’d better walk ten paces in front of me and pretend you don’t know me.”
“God, I love your hair,” he whispered against her mouth. “And your eyes. When you look at me, it just guts me.”
“Be safe, my little love muffin,” Jax said in a voice a few octaves deeper than his own. “I’ll miss you, my handsome sex biscuit,” Beckett said with a girlish giggle.
“Trudy. It was all fun and games until she starts telling everyone who’d listen to her that she’s going to be first lady of Blue Moon.
“Since when did you start wearing lipstick?” Sheriff Donovan Cardona asked as he dumped two bags of chips on the island. Carter swiped a hand over his mouth and swore. He’d spent the last thirty minutes with Summer’s lip gloss smeared all over his mouth and neither of his brothers thought to mention it. Beckett and Jax snickered. “Thanks. Thanks a lot, dicks.” Carter grabbed a paper towel and started scrubbing. “It’s a nice color on you,”
“Why don’t you call him Jax like everyone else?” “I used to. I don’t anymore.” Joey kept her attention on her dinner. “Too familiar?” “Yeah, something like that.
Jax leaned over and kissed her on the cheek. “I’ll miss you when it’s just me and that bearded lug here.” “Get your mouth off my girl,” Carter ordered,
She only hoped that Summer would find the strength to embrace the love that had been offered to her. Whatever her secret, family and a life full of love was the answer.
“He deserves someone who is going to be there in fifty years and sit on that porch and watch the grandkids play.”
