Olive deserved all the smiles in the world. I just wanted to be the one to give them to her.
“I just want to get to know her better,” I said. Liar liar liar my alpha chanted, but it wasn’t like I could say Olive is mine even though she doesn’t know it yet and I’m going to bite her and fuck her and take care of her forever.
There was no sunshine when Olive was unhappy.
“I know you don’t need a knight to rescue you, but just let me pretend. It will make me feel a lot better to know you got home safely.” That sounded good, right? Because what I actually wanted to say was, how about I follow you around at all times and implant a tracker under your skin just in case we ever get separated?
I couldn’t stop staring at that little curve of her lips. It wrecked me. Destroyed me. Any other goal in life I’d ever had was gone and was now replaced with the need to see this omega smile every day for the rest of my life.
I wanted to unwrap her like a present.
“Please, Olive, I’m begging you. Put me out of my misery. Just one kiss, one taste of your sweetness. I won’t survive without it.”
“Even sweeter than I thought.” Easton placed little kisses down the side of my face. His lips dropped to my ear. “I wonder if other parts of you are this sweet.”
“Just relax, baby. You can take him. You were made for us.”
“We’ll prove it to you,” Easton said. “We’ll be so good to you, sunshine. We’ll show you that we’ll be the best alphas for you.”
“Your heart is safe with me. I promise.”
“So beautiful, so gorgeous. Fuck, I’m so damn lucky.”
“What a good girl. Make sure you eat a nice big meal. You worked hard today.”
“Olive,” Rosie said, her eyes soft. “When you find the right alphas, they’ll never make you feel like you’re too much because you won’t be. You’ll be just enough for each other. If they think you’re too much work, they’re not the right alphas for you.”
“Fuck, your body is perfect. So fucking soft. You fit against me like you were made for me.”
“Like is an understatement, little siren. I would wreck my boat at sea just to get close to you.”
I would never push you into something you’re not ready for. We’re going to have forever together, so I can wait until you’re ready.”
“I need you to know you are my priority, sweetheart. Not a minute of the day goes by that I’m not thinking of you.”
Grief is the price we pay for love, and at some point along the way, it started feeling beautiful instead of ugly, like there’s something sacred in the midst of the agonizing pain.”
“Do this for us, kitten. We’re big, overbearing alphas who need to take care of our precious omega.”
Olive, and the only words I want to hear when we spoil you is, ‘Thank you, alpha.’ Anything other than that, you’ll be over my knee again, and I don’t fucking care who’s around.”
My heart beat faster at the thought of bonding her. The fear of losing her, of suffering through grief again, was still there, but it wasn’t enough to tamp down my overwhelming desire to make her fully mine. Ours.
“Olive, my soul has known you were mine for six years, and when I finally laid my eyes on you that day on the beach, I knew I would love you for the rest of my life.”
“How is that even a question? Of fucking course I love you.”
“You mean, are we going to fuck you and take care of you through your entire heat and bond each other? Hell yeah.”
“Forever?”
“Forever,” I responded.
“Good, because you’re mine, and I’ll be yours for as long as the universe gives us. Because even if I lose you—” His voice hitched and he took a slow, deep breath. “Because even if I lose you, it will have...
