Forgiveness was an invitation to sin. I witnessed it every week, which was why I’d decided a long time ago that I did not care to be forgiven. I’d rather be a sinner than a hypocrite.

A slow grin curled over my mouth, though what I really wanted to do was roll my eyes.

He had to be the only person in the entire world who didn’t have a double chin when they looked down. Fucking rude.

Now that I was older, I suspected either Adam was just as responsible, or he had never been capable of critical thinking. Given my experience with most men, I couldn’t dismiss the latter.

“Forgiveness is overrated. It’s just something churchgoers shove down your throat so they can beg for it when they sin.”
