It was my first lesson. Beneath the smooth, familiar face of things is another that waits to tear the world in two.

Circe realizes she lives in a dual world

You cannot know how frightened gods are of pain. There is nothing more foreign to them, and so nothing they ache more deeply to see.

This was pretty shocking to me. I would need to read more Greek mythology before making my perception

I loved to watch him at his daily tasks, which he did with his hands instead of a blink of power:

Monsters are a boon to gods. Imagine all the prayers.’
