“What do I always say?” “It’s not love, it’s adrenaline.”
he’s also just a boy. Not to be gender normative, but have you met a boy? There’s no reason to be intimidated by one.”
“Sparrow, there’s someone out there dying to love you. Don’t ‘fix’ yourself before they get a chance to fall for the real you.”
“It’s when you return to a situation that’s bad for you. If it was bad once, it’ll always be bad. Think of it this way—if you see the same tree twice in the forest, it means you’re lost.”
“My dad disowned me. So, I had to relocate to Brooklyn in February of my senior year. To live with my mother, a virtual stranger.”
Yes, being a teenager today can feel like mopping up a flood with a paper towel. But when we come out on the other side, no one will deny our power.
“But you’re impressive without winning. You’re impressive just standing there, trying to figure out why you’re in Target buying a sex toy with a guy you didn’t know two weeks ago.”
“We’re doomed as fuck. So do what makes you happy.”
Success is what you decide it is, for you and you only-it’s tacky to force your idea of happiness onto someone else. So play the accordion like no one’s watching.
If you grow up around older family members (aunts, uncles, grandparents), ask questions about their past. When you don’t know your family history, you can feel like an escaped balloon-no anchor, just floating away to who-knows-where. Alone.

We’re just friends, right? I just don’t want things to get confusing.”
“I can’t date a lot of people. I don’t want to dabble.”
“I want to be with one person.”
“And I don’t wanna want something I can’t have.
That’s when she melted. Tingles fluttered throughout her body, scrambling her brain. He kissed her till she was liquid in his arms, till her head was spinning, and if she wasn’t already tipsy, Bash’s mouth would’ve taken her there.
Unless your last name is Thee Stallion, there’s never a reason to rap in public.
“Don’t do this.” She’d always told her clients not to beg for someone’s affections. If he wanted you, he’d show you. If it was real, you wouldn’t need to convince someone. But maybe she wasn’t as wise as she thought she was.
“Please,” she whispered. “I’ve never had a friend like you.”
It wasn’t fair for him to decide what would hurt her—before she had a chance to see for herself.
“Let’s not pretend I’m here for any other reason than my dad disowned me. We don’t have anything to talk about because you’re a stranger.
Said I was dead to him. Kicked me out. Gave me a court order approving my last name change—it went from Wallace to Henry, my mom’s name. He said he wanted to change my identity so no one could trace me back to him.” Bash took a small breath, shaken by the retelling. “The day I moved in with my mom, I still had bruises on my neck.”
“It’s why I didn’t want to fall for you. I don’t wanna hurt anyone else. That one kiss ruined lives. I feel radioactive.”
“You want me,” repeated Audre. “I do,” he said, his eyes helplessly traveling to her mouth. “Badly.”
“What do you want?” asked Bash, eyeing her with aching vulnerability. Unsurprisingly, Audre knew exactly what she wanted. “I want a tattoo.”
Audre never knew that hearing a guy groan could be so… hot.
Will you be my girlfriend, A?” Audre blinked several times. Died a thousand deaths. Felt her heart in her throat. And then, in a croaky voice, she responded, “Yes, B.”
“This is so Wattpad,” said Audre. “So messy. Everybody’s lying.”
Life’s too short to waste it worrying about bad things that might happen.
Bash’s home was wherever she was.
According to a 2017 study, mathematicians found that, on any given day, only one in 562 people has the chance of finding love.
One in 562 people.
Heartbreak was so all-consuming, it shocked her. This was what her clients had been feeling all these years? This was what she’d secretly dismissed as over-the-top drama? Well. The universe was paying her back.
“I was never strong enough to rebel. But I hope you will be. Because the thing is? Perfection ain’t it.
making the ‘right’ choices doesn’t guarantee you a happy ending. So, follow your own path. Take chances, be wild, make mistakes, get messy, be colorful. Be true to whoever you are.”
“How do you feel about the most important person in your life?” she whispered. Bash brushed his nose against hers and said, “I love you, A.” “I love you, too, B.” To seal it, he kissed her sweetly, deliciously, his mouth lingering on hers—stealing her breath and her heart all at once. With that, it was official. Bash and Audre were definitely, absolutely, not just friends.
