On a date, though, Darcy should be more than fine. This guy should be falling at her feet, doing whatever he can for her attention. Darcy Andersen’s the full package. Smart, hilarious, and gorgeous, with pretty, pale-blond hair, sea-green eyes, and an adorable nose that turns up at the tip.
“You got hit by a car?” I can hear her trying not to laugh. “Yes. Naked. I was flexing and the driver got distracted. I caused a ten-car pileup.” “And you’re in the hospital?” “Yep, and they keep staring at all my muscles.” I sigh. “It’s making me feel objectified, like a piece of meat. I don’t know how I’m going to get through this without you.”
“Darcy,” he says as a greeting before glancing at Georgia with a grumpy expression. “Got your claws in her already, Dr. Evil?” She stiffens. “Who let you out of the care home, Grandfather?” His features harden and his gaze drops to her feet, lingering. “Those aren’t office appropriate.” “That’s rich from someone with four teeth.” She gives him a cool smile, undeterred by his intimidating presence. And he smells so good and he’s so hot and handsome and kind and perfect and I want him. I just want him. It’s as simple as that.
“So pretty. I love getting flowers.” I’m buying her flowers every day for the rest of eternity.
“Are you going to gripe at me like this for the rest of the season?” Luca asks as they head to the dressing room. “Yes. You need a solid pregame routine that doesn’t include chasing girls.” Luca sighs. “Jesus, you’re obsessed with this pregame routine thing.” He tilts a grin at Alexei, unfazed by his stern and abrupt demeanor. “Hey, did you realize that you’re almost old enough to be my dad?”
“He was engaged once,” I admit, wincing. “He doesn’t like to talk about it.”
“I got married,” she says lightly. “Married?” My jaw drops. “To who? When? Why? I didn’t even know you were seeing someone.” I will never get married, she said last year during our double date. Her pale throat works as she swallows, and finally, she meets my gaze. “Volkov.”
