“My granny used to say it all of the time. Whenever we wanted something, and it seemed as if we’d never get it, she would say God’s timing wasn’t ours. Right now, it feels as if He’s denying you something you want when, in reality, He may be withholding it from you because it’s not the right time. It doesn’t mean that you’re being punished or you’ve done anything wrong. It’ll come when it’s meant to.”
My brothers were my best friends and my practice children, since I often had to watch them and take care of most of the chores around the house.
“We’ve got to stop meeting like this. I’m beginning to think it might be fate.”
“My granny used to say God works in ways we’ll never understand.
“You ever heard that saying, ‘be careful what you wish for’? I’m more than capable of providing you with everything your heart desires; the question is, are you ready?”
I’d never craved another living soul as much as I craved her.
I could already tell baby girl would be nothing but trouble. The good kind, though.
I hope you know it’s a wrap for you and any other nigga. You can’t give this good shit to anyone else,”
Yeah, she was crazy if she thought she wasn’t gonna be mine.
Normandee had me down bad, and I wasn’t afraid to admit it.
I meant what I said. The next man who even breathed in her direction might want to make sure his soul was right with our Lord and Savior because they would be getting a first-class ticket to Sky Daddy.
Love is a gamble. You’ll never be able to predict whether you have a bad hand or a good one until you start playing.
When at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and fuck his friend. Or whatever Aaliyah said.”
“Have you ever been in love? And I’m not talking about the situation with your ex, because you weren’t in love with her. I mean real, infallible love. The kind of love that makes you want to be better. The love that has you doing things that are outside of your normal. The kind that you’ll kill for. The love that will make you want to shut the world out and only focus on the person. You see, after my breakup with Marquise, I came to the realization that I’ve never been loved, and I’ve never truly been in love.
I want the kind of love you see in the movies. Where the man will stop at nothing to have the woman he knows is made for him. I want to be with a man who loves me so deeply that he would never do anything to disrespect me because hurting me is like hurting himself. I want a man who will go to bat for me and remind me of how strong I am because sometimes I forget.
My next man needs to be infatuated with me. I mean, borderline obsessed with everything that comes with me, flaws and all.
I want that all-encompassing love that goes beyond understanding. So until I can experience the kind of love I want, this is all I can offer.”
What I will say to you is that you can’t ask for that kind of love if you aren’t ready to receive it.
There’s a reason this man keeps popping up in your life, and you’d be a fool to allow him to get away. Don’t allow your fears to hold you back from the love you deserve.”
“Life and death are in the power of the tongue. If you speak negativity over your life, then that’s what will come to pass.
I remembered all the teachings that Mama Meka and my granny instilled in us. ‘As a man thinketh, so is he.’
Her lips poked out, and I knew I was in trouble. Not only would my girls have me wrapped around their fingers, but their mama wouldn’t be too far behind them.
I’d never been one to believe in fate, but there was a reason we kept finding our way to back each other.
“Plus, I don’t like you; I love you. I don’t care if you only had two fingers and three toes; I’m here for the long haul. Until we’re old and gray and you start chewing air with no teeth in your mouth, you’re it for me.” “It started off so romantic, and then somehow, you went left.”
“Don’t ever be afraid to call me on my shit. If I’m not loving you the way you need to be loved, then I’m failing as a man.
The only thing I ask is that you always keep it real with me. Give me your whole heart, ’cause I’m damn sure giving you mine.”
“Sometimes, I feel like I don’t deserve you, but then I remember that I prayed for a love like this. I remember my aunt Carla used to say that God doesn’t do things on our time, but when He finally does bless you, it’s bigger than you ever imagined.
I may not be the best at expressing myself with words, but my love for you doesn’t have an end date. I’m gonna love you in this life and the next. And if by some chance you make it to Heaven before me, make sure you tell them angel niggas that you’ve got a man. I would hate to have to air that place out before I even get my robe and mansion.”
Sometimes people get so caught up in what being a Christian is supposed to look like on the outside, they forget that it’s a heart thing.
“Lord, I’m sorry for showing my ass because I had every intention of being on my best behavior.” Normi held her hands together as if she were praying. I shook my head as I backed out of the parking lot. “Baby, I think it’s safe to say you failed the mission.”
I’ve got your front and your back, and you don’t have to ask me to defend you. You are mine to love now, and I take my job very seriously. I’ll smack a bitch’s wig off for my man. They better get with the program.”
Even though I knew she was being silly, I was grateful for the way she loved me. Her little ass was ready for war behind me, and even though I’d never allow her to do so, I loved her for wanting to. It felt good to know that I wasn’t in this alone.
Ty: Anything for my girls.
You can either become a product of your environment, or you can become a solution.
“Then let’s go home.”
“Normi girl, you had no other choice but to stop running. I wasn’t giving up on us. You were gonna be with me one way or another.
I’m the only man you’ll ever need in this lifetime and the next.” “I’m one lucky woman.” “And don’t you ever forget it. Naw, for real, our love was destined to be.
