Kindle Notes & Highlights
“To be honest, no. Her record is gruesome and disturbing. It’s been flagged as odd that she was miraculously the only survivor of the mission failure two years ago. You seem to be awfully chummy with her, though.”
“Then why are you so sure the Ghosts won’t take her out? What makes you think she’ll protect me?”
“Keep your enemies...

“Is that why you had her stay so close and snug in your room?”
“And if things go awry, I need your word that you’ll kill her if she steps out of bounds. That
girl is dangerous and we’re already playing with fire.”
“Your word, Bradshaw.”
“You like her now, so at least you won’t be stupid about it, but if it comes down to it, I need you to kill her.”
Sleep my bunny, your next breath is not promised.
I’ll kill anyone who isn’t Malum. And then I’ll kill the rat.
“Don’t pull the trigger until you’re sure. Until you know you won’t regret the last breath the other person will take.”
“Bunny, fucking stop. I swear to God I’ll fucking shoot you.”
“If you’re going to shoot me, then get it over with, Bones. If I’m going to die today, it will only be at your hands.”
“I’m tired, so it’s okay. If this is where it ends, it’s okay.”
He’s a fucking idiot if he can’t see what Ian was. My teeth grind as I think about how he pulled me off that hostile soldier and tried to cut my throat. I knew he was talking to someone else other than Jefferson. Unfortunately, I doubt Malum will believe me.
“I can’t fucking do it,” he says slowly, sounding so disappointed in himself.
The only thing I can focus on is the pain in Bradshaw’s eyes. He’s crying.
“Get back to the drop-off zone, Bones! You have two minutes before the pilot takes to the sky. Where are”— gun shots blur out his words—“did you exterminate Bunny?”
“Are you certain Ian was the infiltrator?”
“You think I’d kill him if he wasn’t? I’m trying to keep you alive, Bones. Whoever he told our coordinates to, they were coming to kill you.”
“Go.” His voice is stone. My brows knit. “What—” “Go back without me.”
“That’s an order, Bun.”
“I won’t let you die here, Bradshaw. And I can’t return without you.”
“Bun, please.”
“I’m sorry. I can’t follow your orders this time, Bradshaw,”
We’ll die here together, alone and stranded. We both know it.
“Bradshaw… why did you let me live?”
“Would you have been able to kill me if our situations were reversed, Bun?”
“No. I don’t think I could.”
“Why did Eren order you to get rid of me instead of hearing me out?”
“I’m so fucking sorry.”
“I almost… I almost made a huge mistake.”
Jenkins would’ve made me kill Bradshaw with my own two hands for what he’s done. But I can’t help but pity the broken soldier. He trusts his brother more than anything in this world. He always follows through on a command. Just like I do.
“Eren will find us.”
“He won’t. The backup drop location is closer to the Ghosts’ base. They’ll skip over the first two bunkers before they even land. I’ll protect you, Bunny. I promise.”
“If it comes down to it and we run out of options, promise that you’ll be the one to kill me,”
“Don’t let Eren do it. Don’t let anyone else do it. I want you to be the one.”
“Okay,”
A black bullet killed Abrahm. I killed Abrahm.
“Kill her, Bones. I knew he’d set us up… He fucked me over. Kill her!”
“I’m telling you this because I care about you, Bun. I’m sick of lying. I don’t give a shit about your squad, but I wanted to tell
you because I can’t lie for him anymore. Not when he wanted me to murder you.”
“You knew the whole time?”
“I had a suspicion after you joined our squad that the events were related.”
“There weren’t supposed to be any survivors. But you lived. Eren didn’t find out until a few months ago and he doesn’t like leaving anything unfinished. So he made a few calls and had you recruited to Malum. General Nolan owed him a favor and he promised you’d be safe with us. Eren wanted to use you as insurance to protect me.”
“Insurance from who? Who’s fucking after you two?!”
“I don’t know.”
“There are things Eren even keeps from me, Bun. My brother has made an enemy that actually keeps him up at night. I’ve never pressed ...

“You two are the reason my squad is dead.”
“No. I’m not. My brother maybe, but not me.”
