Of all the people she might become, Cora thinks that a Good Christian Girl isn’t the worst choice. She imagines going on church trips to pumpkin patches and praying around an apple tree, baking little cupcakes for coffee hour, going to choir practice on Thursday nights, meeting a Good Christian Boy who will marry her and say things about “honoring thy wife,” but the pandemic threw a wrench in those plans. Cora would take that life in a heartbeat, if God could hear her.
