“Then why are you flirting with me?” she accused. “Am I?” The curl of his lips was arrogant now. “I think you just find me very attractive, and we happen to be talking about sex.”
She realized she wanted to bite him again. Badly.
“I want everyone who bet against me to see my face until they’re sick of it.”
“She’s mine
“Whatever you might think of that, whatever problem you have with it, if you ever try to touch her again, I will make the rest of your eternal life even more fucking miserable than it already is.”
“Do not ever call me yours again.”
“If you wanted to be choked, all you had to do was ask,”
“If he touched you—” “If I didn’t know any better,” she interrupted before he could get too worked up, “I might think you were jealous, Mr. Silver.”
“Are you going to be able to walk on your foot?” “If I said no?” she asked. He smirked at her. And before she could protest, he was scooping her up into his arms and bringing her over to the spinning bookcase.
“I wouldn’t pick a fight with me right now, Remington. Not after what you pulled with my wife.”
Something brushed the back of her hand: Rowin’s fingertips.
“The light isn’t something you need to chase, Genevieve. The light is wherever you are,” he told her.
She’d braided hers through her soft curls and even made one small enough to fit around Umbra’s neck like a collar. Which the Familiar did not seem all too pleased with. Though definitely more pleased than Rowin, who was now wearing the strings of flowers atop his head, around his neck, and on each of his wrists. The soft pastel petals were so at odds lying against his tattooed skin, yet it somehow only enhanced his allure to her.
“I’ve got you,” that first voice whispered. “I won’t let you go.”
“Just help her.
“You’re on my side of the bed,” she rasped. “Flawless observation,” he murmured.
“After what you did for Umbra, you deserve it,”
“You don’t need to say thank you,” he told her. “You and I are partners. We’ll save each other.”
It had been less than four days, and yet he was the first person other than her sister to ever show up for her when she needed him to. Every single time. He was the first person other than her sister that she wanted to save as well.
“You don’t owe me anything, Rowin. Umbra is a part of you, and you are…”
“If you and I are partners, that includes your furry little menace,”
She wanted him so badly in this moment that she’d let her heart lead her into whatever perilous fires it wanted if he would just keep touching her forever.
“Oh, I won’t be sweet for long, trouble,”
“Touch me,” she pleaded. “I am touching you,”
“Let me show you what it’s like to have my gratitude, trouble.”
“If you thought I was a tireless opponent, wait until you see me as a lover.”
“I need to feel you worship me.”
“But for whatever time you remain in my bed, I will make it your shrine.”
I will not let him ruin me.
“You know exactly like what. I’m not going to stand here and tell you how attractive you are when you definitely already know.”
“Because it would be so terrible if I actually enjoyed the company of my husband, wouldn’t it?”
“What is it you need from me?” he asked, sincerely. “Tell me and it’s done.”
But the tenderness in which he worked made her furious, honestly. One moment it was clear she meant nothing to him, and then he took care of her like this? She wanted to bite him again.
“Ready, trouble?”
“It’s just you and me, trouble.
“Relax, trouble,”
trouble.”
“I think we should show everyone how willing you are to get on your knees for me,”
“You want me on my knees, trouble? Then I’ll get on my knees. But first…”
“I… I’ve always been right about you, you know. You’re going to be nothing but trouble for me.” “It’s time for you to get on your knees,”
“Good job, trouble,”
“You killed him because he was going to hurt me?” “He touched my wife without permission,” he bit out. “I’d have killed him for less than that.
“Happy fucking birthday, Mrs. Silver,”
“I do not understand this family.” But in another life, I think I might have really loved to be a part of it.
Having your mouth on me. Hands down.
“Do you have any idea how grateful I am that it was you that walked through that door and—”
“It only seems easy because, somehow, I’ve started to like you, Rowin!”
“I am not him,” Rowin snarled. “I want to find him and flay all the flesh from his body and set him on fire for what he did to you. Don’t ever compare me to him.”
If you don’t play correctly, you’re going to get punished.” “That only makes me want to do it more,”
But he’s mine. Her partner. Her lover. Her husband.
