But the version of herself that everybody knows is someone who takes up as little space as possible. She has scrupulously spent her adulthood asking other people to set her preferences, boundaries, and desires for her. In so doing, she has asked the world to construct a chalk outline of herself that she can lay within to attract as little attention as possible.

But a person’s life is their own. Few sins are greater than trying to squeeze someone else into the shape you require them to be.
