“When I dream about you naked, you’re not usually so hobbled, and you’re a lot more enthusiastic about it.”
“The eye contact is making this worse,” I say, and my voice has dipped lower and a hell of a lot huskier than I ever intended. His teeth scrape over his lower lip. “Where would you like me to look?” Fuck looking. I want you to dive in and eat me out so good they hear me in the next town.
Safe here, safe here, safe here. “Clover?” My eyes have started to close and I wrench them open to see Zac watching me drowsily. “You’re falling asleep.” “You look sleepy, too,” I mumble, nuzzling his shoulder. I can’t seem to make myself care about boundaries right now. I am so fucking tired. “What if…” I wrench my eyes open again. “Mm?” Zac sinks deeper into his chair, taking me with him. He rests his head back, closes his eyes. “Do you think we can only fall asleep together?”
“So, unless you’re telling me you go around dry humping all your friends, let me be very clear: You and me? We aren’t friends. Not even close.” She breaks into a grin specifically designed to annoy me. “Not with that attitude, we’re not.”
“I’ll be your plaything. I’d wear the title like a badge of honor and eat you out on command.”
“You realize you’re encouraging me to come up with a plan to meet a guy, right?” “Nah, I’m just waiting for you to realize you can check that off your list at any time. She nuzzles into me. “I don’t understand how you’re single.” “I’ve never been single. I’ve been yours.”
“You’re a real catch, Zachary Porter.” Her eyes shine as she looks up at me, and I sweep her cheek with my thumb. “So, catch me.”
After all, she isn’t supposed to be here with me. But I’m gonna marry that girl one day. There’s no other way about it.
“I’m yours. I’m the one who has you, and I’m getting some goddamn answers tonight, however I need to get them.”
She’s that first ray of sunlight after a bad storm. Peeking through the clouds.
“I loved you so much back then,” she says. “I know I took a break in the middle, but maybe that’s what I needed to really appreciate the way I love you now. The way you love me now.”
Because as long as I have her, my four-leaf clover, we’ll have a lifetime of topping the last moment.
