A towering stone statue loomed in the center of the chamber, its features worn by time. I circled around it until I reached the front, taking in the woman’s face. There was nothing particularly unique about the woman, every bit of her covered in a weathered bronze, but when I looked up into her eyes, I suddenly couldn’t catch my breath. Long robes were draped across her body in bronze, her face forlorn, but it was her eyes that seemed to follow me, to see so deeply within me that my magic quivered.
