The midday sun was blinding as we stepped out of The Drake and onto the busy sidewalk. I glanced at the map on my phone and headed down the sidewalk, keeping Annie’s hand in mine. Hand-holding was typically counterproductive when it came to escaping a situation—no matter how much they did it in the movies. But today wasn’t an escape and evade kind of afternoon. It was just the two of us, out to explore the city.
