when I take a moment to think about it, I do want to get used to this. To feel this connected to my mother, to have her look up at me across the table and smile because I have made something I’ve learned from her and her mother. It’s a kind of fulfillment that is both new and intoxicating. I want to believe that I’m finally starting to close the gap that my dad and I have let grow for so long. It’s a reward so sweet, I can’t imagine not chasing it again and again.
