Umm, kind of dumb.
Her Spanish bridged the gap between Italian and English. Elyse quickly connected the dots. Signor Vitale sounded like Señor Vitale, which meant Mr. Vitale.
This is waaaaay too dumbed down. Have some faith that the reader is not an absolute idiot living under a rock. Like I don’t need an Italian or Spanish lesson when I read because it completely pauses the story and it is 1000% unrealistic that someone who speaks Spanish will be “connecting the dots” so slowly about what very basic and universally known words or phrases are in a very similar Latin-based language.
