It was half past eleven. I could reasonably wake up at five. Six and a half hours. I could do this. I stared at the ceiling, my jaw tight, while Vivian turned and tossed. Every dip of the mattress reminded me she was there. Half-naked, close enough to touch, and smelling like an apple orchard after a morning rainstorm. I didn’t even like apples.
If I loved you as much as he claims to love you, nothing would’ve stopped me from keeping you.
bro this chapter was incredible. the emotions, the back and forth, the tension, the build up. i could feel how frustrated and angry vivian was and how sad and confused dante was i want to cry for them both.
You have no idea what it took for me to get to where I am today because I shielded you from the ugly truth. The number of people who laughed in my face
vivian’s father is such a fucking coward and a prick. he is greedy and selfish. he preach respect, loyalty, and the importance of family and then turns around and sells his daughter off to random men for what? social status? more money? he blackmails an innocent man (dante) and puts his brother in a VERY dangerous situation just to have a little more power. he is a power hunger pos. he deserved what he got cause it could have been MUCH worse.
“I love you, Vivian. More than I could ever hate your father. And more than I ever thought I was capable of.”
this is cute and all but im honestly tired of men not communicating their feelings until the LAST fucking minute. i dont care that you love me. it feels insincere when you don’t actually say it until after you have so royally fucked up that you need to win me back. its ridiculous
“We were better as a family before we were rich.”
i love how this book shows how wealth affects a person and how affects the dynamics of a a family who was previously poor/middle class. AND how vivian’s mom was genuinely not trying to hurt vivian, listened to how she felt, apologized, promised to try and do better, AND THEN DID BETTER. THANK YOU
nape. “Per te aspetterei per sempre, amore mio.” “Spero non ci vorrà così tanto.“ I smiled at his shock. “I speak six languages, Dante. Italian is one of them.”
i love that Ana waited until the end of the book to tell us Vivian speaks italian. something about that after a high tension scene is so nice
