One, Dante was going to be my fiancé. Two, we might kill each other before we ever made it to the altar.
Whether I liked her or not, Vivian was my fiancée, and I was getting damn tired of hearing her name leave his mouth. “Don’t worry,” I said. “I’ll treat her exactly the way she deserves.”
More like the devil sent to work on my last nerve.
Like I was the one who’d showed up uninvited at her party wearing an outfit that could send a man to his fucking knees.
When she remained mutinously silent, I reached up and closed my hand around her throat. Lightly, just enough to feel the shallowness of her breaths.
a jar of sliced pickles and a bowl of chocolate pudding
Black sweatpants hung just low enough to elicit dirty thoughts before I quashed them.
“Pringles, pickles, and pudding.”
pouring soy sauce over ice cream?”
“Fine, but if you change your mind, I have strawberry-flavored condoms. Magnum size, ribbed for your—”
“You forget.” I pressed my fingers against her nape, forcing her to look up at me. “You’re my fiancée. Not Kai’s. Not anyone else’s. I don’t give a fuck how handsome they are or what type of accent they have. You’re mine, and no one…” I dipped my head, my lips brushing hers with each word. “Touches what’s mine.”
“Have you lost weight? Are you eating enough? Sleeping enough? Having sex enough?”
A velvety flutter brushed my heart.
I took back what I said about her being endearing. She was fucking evil.
“Because you’re mine.” His teeth scored my neck. “You wear my ring. You’ve come on my face and hand. You live in my head all the fucking time, even if I don’t want you to...” His palm slid to my hip, where his fingers dug grooves into my skin. “And God, I want to punish you for driving me so damn crazy. Every. Single. Day.”
“So no, it’s not just fucking business anymore.”
“Perfect. Fix it over breakfast.” A smile flickered over Dante’s mouth. “We’re going on our first date.”
I like you because of you, not because of your money. Even if you piss me off sometimes,”
“I don’t like a lot of people,” he said evasively.
“That’s my fucking point! You shouldn’t have to be perfect to get your parents’ affection!” “That’s my point! I do!”
Next time they drop in for a surprise visit, we can also tell them we’ve contracted a terrible, highly contagious stomach bug and lock ourselves in our apartment until they leave.”
ice cream cufflinks,”
“The dessert and not me? I’m offended.”
But I don’t have the stomach for blood, so he’s safe. For now.”
“You’re dating someone named Leaf?” I asked, incredulous.
Somehow, somewhere along the way, I’d fallen in love with Vivian Lau.
“Is it just me,” he said. “Or do you also feel like you’re in a giant fishbowl?”
“You’ve been gone less than a week and I already feel like I’ve spent an eternity in hell.”
Fucking Greta. Every day, I questioned why I hadn’t fired her yet.
“For ever making you feel unwanted when you’re the only person I’ve ever loved.”
“You look good in control, mia cara.”
“Because I’m friends with Isabella, and you’re scary.”
“I didn’t think it’d actually happen. I know I told you to fight for her, but I was certain she’d kick you to—”
The type that existed only when you reached the end of a long journey…and found home.
