If Tomorrow Never Comes

He still hadn’t done the latter—hadn’t fallen in love with her—but he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt he could. That he would fall for her if given the chance.

But sometimes ignoring something makes it more painful in the long run.

It’s impossible to keep everyone happy all the time, as much as I know that bothers you.

Ignoring her excitement was one thing—not swooning at the way she adored his dog was a different story.

She stubbornly refused to even consider how deep her feelings went, preferring to pretend they weren’t there, like any other mature, emotionally stable adult.

Everything around her shifted and swirled, the ground dropping out from beneath her, threatening to take her down if it weren’t for his arms around her.

“Nothing changed about the way I feel about you. It’s been the one constant ever since we met, a lingering awareness that never faded.

Their road to this place hadn’t been ideal. But he couldn’t find it in himself to regret it, either.

If she’d learned anything over the last few months, it was that she needed to try to let go of things she couldn’t control.
