“What good is showing off on a date if you’re not gonna tell anyone about how impressive I am?”
“You’re staring, you know.”
“Do you want to come over sometime?” he whispers, his breath hot against my lips.
I find myself whispering, “When were you thinking?”
“Do you trust me?”
“Yeah, I do,” I whisper, all rough and gravelled. For the briefest moment, his hazel eyes take on a softness, melting into a liquid bronze right in front of me.
Madden: Hey, you.
“Hands on the bed. No touching unless I say so.”
“Do you wanna just…stay?”
“Let me guess. You can’t believe a big jock could possibly be friends with any of us, right?” “And here we go again,” Torin mutters under his breath.
But there’s not a chance in hell I’ll be caught complaining—it’s certainly better than him over in Siberia on the other side of the sofa.
“Don’t let it go to your head, all right?” “Oh, it’s way too late for that.” And when he shifts upward to press his lips to mine, I realize it might be too late for my heart as well.
I almost think he’s fallen back asleep when he quietly asks, “Are you gonna leave?”
Of course, all of my willpower crumbles like a house of cards when he utters two words. “Just stay.”
“I’m sorry,” I whisper. He reaches up, swiping away a piece of hair that’s fallen over my forehead, only to offer a soft smile…and two words that stop my fucking heart. “I’m not.”
Madden: Always playing dirty, aren’t you?
Me: Nope. I’ll leave you there to rot. I’m not a traitor to my team. Madden: Says the one fucking the enemy. ;)
“Well, it’s not like I can just drop the bi-bomb on them and start parading my stepbrother around the house after we just screwed eight ways to Sunday,” I retort in frustration. “The entire house would think I lost my damn mind.”
Oakley leans back and sighs before looking over at his boyfriend. “Yeah, you’re right. My friends have way better tea.”
“When it’s your forever on the line—” “—all the codes and rules go right out the damn window,”
“And to tell Theo here to stop stealing my boyfriend.”
“Pretty sure that’s Phoenix’s MO, not mine.”
“You made a spreadsheet of all my stats while I’ve been playing for Blackmore.”
As if I could even try to forget him.
If I’ve ruined him, he’s decimated me. He’s taken me apart, piece by piece, and left me in shambles at his feet.
“Asshole,” I mouth to him, and it has a full grin spreading over his face. The sight has my stomach doing all kinds of gymnastics, and I quickly look away, needing to focus on the task at hand.
In the end, devastation wins out, and as I look at him—at this man that I…fucking love—I’ve never been more angry.
“Christ, Madden. I want you to the end of my sanity. I want you for every reason I shouldn’t. You have to believe that.”
Turning around isn’t weakness of mind or lack of trust in the other person; it’s love.”
Then he’s stopping in front of me, sifting his fingers through my hair and dragging my mouth to his. And it’s a kiss I’d travel to the fucking Underworld for, over and over again.
Madden has proven time and time again, he’s able to stun me speechless.
“Madden, I want you.” “You have me,” he replies immediately, and fuck it makes my goddamn heart soar.
Fuck yes, baby. So fucking perfect. So fucking mine.
Every piece of me—mind, body, and soul—belongs to Madden Hastings.
“I’ve broken all my rules for you, Theo. What’s one more?”
“Because I love you, okay? God, I thought that’d be fucking obvious.”
“You’re the one I’d turn around for, Theo. Over and over again.”
“You don’t understand,” I implore, the words coming out dragged over shattered glass. “I think I do, my love. I think I understand perfectly.”
