He’s shy. Hesitant in believing he could hold the titles of good-looking and most attractive.
“You’re doing that a lot, I notice. Swooping in and saving the day.” “I don’t think I’m doing anything. You’re just hanging out with the wrong people.” The overhead lighting dims. The atmosphere turns intimate. “Guys who don’t deserve your attention,” he says, looking at me.
“You don’t strike me as someone who takes what they want.” I run my hands up his chest and tug on his tie. “But you can be greedy with me, Reid.”
“All that attention, wasted. You need to give it to someone who can read you. Who can tell you have more left in you.” Reid kisses my shoulder, and I shudder. “And I’m just getting started with you, Avery.”
“No one’s taken care of me the way you do, and I want it again.”
“It doesn’t seem nearly as scary as it did before,” she admits. “Meeting you has reminded me of how much good is left in the world. How much love there is to give and receive.
He’s offering me a hand. Figuring out how he can carry some of the load, and no one has ever done that for me before.
“My selfless boy deserves nice things.”
