Finally, I see my daughter, holding Dani’s hand, as they both walk outside. They’re grinning at each other, and Birdie’s talking about something that makes Dani laugh, and my heart catches again. Shit, she looks good with my kid. I’m so fucked.

“The timing was never right before. You were too young for me, and then when you weren’t, you were gone. The time is right now, and I’m not stupid enough to walk away from you. However, if this isn’t what you want, I need you to spell it out for me so I don’t waste any more of your time.” I frown. “You would do that? You’d walk away if I told you to?” “It would fucking suck, but yeah, I would. Because you deserve everything good in this life, and that includes being with someone that you choose to be with.” Holy. Swoon. “So, no more friend zone.” “I fucking hate the goddamn friend zone.”
One, I’m completely in love with Dani Lexington. And two, I’m never letting her go.
“She’s your business. I’m your business, just like you’re ours, so ask anything you want. Got it?”
“I love you, Dani. I love everything about you.” Tears run unchecked now as I frame his gorgeous face in my hands. “I love you, too. So much. More than I thought possible.”
“Because you’re not alone, and you’ll never be alone again. If you need to fall apart, you’ll do it with me, and then we’ll put the pieces back together as a team. If you’re pissed or sad or hurt, you’ll tell me and let me help you. I don’t want you running away from me, kitten. I’m the one you always ran to before, and that’s how it’s going to be now.”
