That voice. Deep, raspy, and a tone that had my whole body jerking to attention. It was just too bad it belonged to a giant dick. And not in a good way, no matter how much my body seemed to disagree.
“Law Man,” Ridley greeted. “Chaos,” I returned. Those eyes sparked. “Chaos?” “Can’t say you don’t bring that in your wake.”
I did not need to know that this woman who smelled like smoky sunshine and looked like a walking temptation had a taste for my whiskey. So I just grunted.
“It just means we have to hold onto the good that much more. The only thing that can cast out darkness is light.”
Everything in me responded. Wanted nothing more than to yank that curtain back and step in with her. There was just one problem. Ridley hated me. And with good reason. I was so fucked.
My nipples pebbled, pressing against the rough fabric. My body was an idiot. This man had been a dick of epic proportions. Rude and cruel. A grumpy-assed prick. My nipples should not be reacting to him. It was a betrayal of the highest order.
“Tooth…hugs?” I nodded. “It’s how she shows affection.”
“I’ve seen you two together exactly once and that I-hate-you-so-bad-I-want-to-tear-your-clothes-off vibe was so strong I’m pretty sure the whole bar could see it.”
The deep rasp skated over my skin in a way that had all my nerve endings standing at attention. Even the ones in my traitorous nipples.
I’d rather swallow shards of glass followed by ghost pepper juice.”
“Law Man,” she started cautiously. “You okay?” “Who. The. Hell. Did. This. To. You?”
Those damn traitorous nipples.
if I let him carry me. I’d probably end up dry-humping him.
But I hadn’t been prepared for the sight of her wearing something that was mine. The way my chest tightened and some sort of demented male pride surged. It was fucked, the way it felt right.
Colt wasn’t perfect, but he was kind. His words might not always be the best, but his actions always were. And I’d take actions over pretty lies any day.
“Don’t lie,” he ground out. “Tell me to mind my own business, but don’t lie.”
“Be safe, Chaos. It’s going to piss me the hell off if you end up dead.” She grinned up at me. “You say the sweetest things, Law Man.”
“I’ll help, Chaos. But you are going to stay safe. No more putting your ass on the line.” I opened my mouth to argue, but Colt shut me down with a single look. “We aren’t taking chances. Not with you. Not ever.”
My thoughts were so full of Ridley and her beautiful chaos that I couldn’t get my head where it needed to be.
“It’s a bad idea,” I rasped. “We’d be playing with fire.” Those ocean eyes sparked. “Then let’s watch it burn.”
“God, you’re pretty when you beg. Think that deserves a reward.”
Two fingers stroked in. “So damn perfect she deserves another reward.”
“Don’t come, Ridley. You tell me before you’re going to come because the first time I make you shatter, I’m gonna be inside you.”
the moment her hand slid into mine, I could breathe again. It shouldn’t have been possible for chaos to be so calming, but it was. She was. Ridley.
“I’d like to get to know her. Not because of who she is to this case but because of who she is to you,” Ridley said softly.
“Should’ve told you before now. You look beautiful. A kind of beauty that would make any man stop in his tracks. But it’s only matched by your fierceness.” Those brown eyes sparked gold. “Show no mercy, Chaos.”
“Haven’t you figured it out yet, Chaos? You’ve had me breaking all the rules since the day I met you.”
“Grab the headboard, Chaos.”
no one made me feel more alive than Colter Brooks.
“I don’t know what it says about my dedication to the feminist cause that I like when you manhandle me,” she grumbled. I chuckled. “It says you need others to respect that you can do it yourself, but sometimes it’s nice to have someone do it for you.”
I dropped my forehead to hers.
I’m not going to leave him alone in his pain. Even when he hated me, he never did that.”
I gave him the last piece of me. “I love you, Colt.”
“You didn’t have to jump after me.” Colt’s hand tightened around mine. “Always going to jump after you.” The tears came a little faster now. “Love you, Law Man.”
I knew Colt would always lead me out of the shallows and into that bit of starlight we’d stolen for ourselves.
“Colt, you helped me find all the missing pieces. Even the ones I didn’t realize I needed.”
